Matlock's Leah Lewis Posts Message Of 'Love And Strength' After Co-Star David Del Rio Is Fired For Alleged Sexual Assault
Matlock's Leah Lewis is speaking out after her co-star David Del Rio was fired amid allegations that he sexually assaulted her.
Lewis posted a picture of herself and her mother on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, adding a caption that read: "Mom is here, we're moving forward in love and strength. I'm in good hands. Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we're moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Please, let that be the takeaway."
Earlier on Thursday, TVLine confirmed that Del Rio was fired from the CBS courtroom drama after an investigation was conducted into an incident involving the actor. After the investigation was completed, the show decided to part ways with Del Rio. No details about the alleged incident have been officially released, but TMZ, who first reported the news, says that Del Rio was accused of sexually assaulting his co-star Lewis on Paramount property.
Del Rio played young associate Billy Martinez on Matlock, appearing in all 19 episodes of its freshman season. He was often paired with Lewis' fellow associate Sarah Franklin as the young guns at the law firm, but their characters weren't romantically linked.
Del Rio's character Billy will immediately be written off, though it's not clear how many episodes he'll appear in for the upcoming Season 2. The show is currently on a filming hiatus through November after completing production on the first half of the season. Season 2 premieres this Sunday at 8:30/7:30c on CBS at a special night and time — with an episode featuring both Del Rio and Lewis — before settling into its regular time slot Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9 pm.
