Paramount+ With Max, Anyone? Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery Eyeing Merger (Report)
Two media titans are considering becoming one.
Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery have held talks about a possible merger, according to a report in Axios. (TVLine has reached out to both companies for comment.) Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav reportedly joined Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish on Tuesday in New York City for a meeting that lasted several hours, with the two discussing how their companies could complement each other.
It's still very early in the process, but a merger between the two could mean a combined streaming service that incorporates both Paramount+ With Showtime and Warner Bros. Discovery's Max. That would combine Paramount+'s library of CBS programming and NFL coverage with Max's HBO prestige programming and Discovery/TLC reality franchises. The combined service could potentially pose a serious challenge to streaming competitors Netflix and Disney+... or at least Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery are hoping that it could.
Any potential merger couldn't be closed any earlier than next April, though, since Warner Bros. Discovery has to wait two full years after its own merger to pursue any new deals. But even the hint of such a massive merger is already sending shockwaves through Hollywood.
