Poppa's House Among 2 Cancellations At CBS

Poppa's House is locking its doors for good: CBS has cancelled the Wayans family's sitcom after just one season, TVLine has learned.

Poppa's House Season 1 is averaging shy of 4.1 million viewers (with delayed playback), delivering just 70% retention out of The Neighborhood, whereas Bob Hearts Abishola last year enjoyed 94%. It stands as CBS' least-watched scripted program of the 2024-25 TV season.

The series follows "legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa (Damon Wayans Sr.) [who] has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired," reads the official description. At home, he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Damon Wayans Jr.), "a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband."

Essence Atkins (Half & Half), Tetona Jackson (Home Economics) and Geoffrey Owens (The Cosby Show) co-star.

"Creating Poppa's House was such a beautiful journey. My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa's House such a meaningful experience," Wayans Sr. wrote in an Instagram post after the cancellation came down on Tuesday. "A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. Working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life... Though Poppa's House is coming to a close, I'm walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could've ever imagined."

The Eye Network has also cancelled reality competition series The Summit after just one season. The show follows a group of contestants as they attempt to climb a mountain, overcoming treacherous physical obstacles along the way, and navigating a mental and social game as well.

The Summit Season 1 averaged just 2.6 million total viewers — barely half of its Survivor lead-in. And out of all entertainment programming that CBS has aired during the 2024-25 season, only Raid the Cage has a smaller audience.

This news leaves Queen Latifah's The Equalizer as the only CBS series still awaiting its fate for the 2025-26 TV season.
