Sheinelle Jones Sets Today Return, 4 Months After Husband's Death

Sheinelle Jones will return to NBC's Today on Friday, Sept. 5 — four months after her husband, Uche Ojeh, died of brain cancer.

Savannah Guthrie made the announcement during Tuesday's 7 am hour, revealing that she recently sat down with Jones for a taped interview about her experience with loss, and "how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months.

"She calls this experience 'a beautiful nightmare,' and she has thoughts on grief that are so touching," Guthrie said. "She's got a special message of hope for anybody facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you [Friday]."

Jones first took a leave of absence from Today in December to deal with a "family health matter." In an Instagram post on Jan. 15, she thanked her Today colleagues and her fans for their ongoing support.

Four months later, on May 23, Guthrie confirmed Ojeh's passing while surrounded by the rest of Jones' Today family, including Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and Dylan Dryer.

"There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children," Guthrie said at the time. "Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him."

Added Melvin: "One thing he always talked about — he talked about those kids. He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline at every soccer game. He was at all the concerts, the recitals. He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story."
