Shifting Gears Gets Additional Season 2 Episode Order At ABC

Rev up your engines: Shifting Gears is going to take a few extra laps around the racetrack.

ABC has ordered three additional Season 2 episodes of the Tim Allen-Kat Dennings sitcom, according to Deadline, bringing the total Season 2 order to 13 episodes. That puts it ahead of Season 1, which debuted in January with 10 episodes.

Allen stars as Matt, the owner of an auto restoration shop, who gets a shock when his estranged daughter Riley, played by Dennings, shows up on his doorstep with her two kids in tow. Seann William Scott co-stars as Gabriel, with Daryl "Chill" Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Riley's son Carter and Barrett Margolis as her daughter Georgia.

Season 2 will play host to a few reunions of Allen's former sitcoms, with his Home Improvement co-stars Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning guest-starring in the season premiere. Plus, Nancy Travis, who played Allen's wife on Last Man Standing, will return as spirited widow Charlotte after a Season 1 appearance.

Shifting Gears returns for Season 2 on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8/7c on ABC — and with only a 13-episode run, that opens the door for the upcoming Scrubs revival (which has already earned a series order) to potentially slide into that Wednesdays at 8 time slot ahead of Abbott Elementary at midseason, Deadline theorizes. (No premiere date for Scrubs has been officially announced.)
