The Floor Among Two Renewals At Fox
Fox has revealed the fate of two more shows ahead of its Upfront presentation Monday.
A few short hours after renewing animated trio Grimsburg, Krapopolis and Universal Basic Guys, the network has picked up The Floor for Seasons 4 and 5, TVLine has confirmed.
Fox has also handed a Season 2 order to the reality competition series Extracted, which wrapped its 10-episode freshman run on April 21.
On The Floor, which is hosted by Rob Lowe, "100 contestants will stand their ground on a massive, interactive LED game floor featuring 100 squares, each representing a different trivia category. The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent's category. The winner takes over the loser's square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose — do they go on the offensive to dominate more of the board? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger? The contestant who gains full control over The Floor takes home a life-changing grand prize of $250,000."
Extracted, meanwhile, is described by Fox as "a one-of-a-kind survivalist competition series" wherein "12 untrained competitors attempting to survive extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. Meanwhile, some miles away, their family members are locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each untrained contestant in the wilderness lies in the hands of their family members back in HQ. Each amateur survivalist's family has the power to decide whether their loved one has what it takes to brave the elements and fight to be the last one standing, or whether the family will push the ominous 'Extract' button and remove their loved one and their whole family from the competition."
As previously reported, Fox's flagship reality program The Masked Singer will forgo its traditional fall cycle and return in January for Season 14, which leaves Wednesdays at 8/7c wide open for another show — perhaps Extracted or The Floor — to take its place come September.
