The Great North Cancelled At Fox After 5 Seasons
Things have gone south for animated series The Great North, which has been cancelled at Fox after five seasons, TVLine has confirmed.
"We're so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North," Fox president Michael Thorn said in a statement. "It's difficult to say goodbye, but we're thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup."
The show's cancellation was first announced on Bluesky by Aimee Steinberger, who directed multiple episodes. "Sadly we got the news today that The Great North is officially cancelled," she wrote. "I'm pretty sad about it. It's one of a very small number of shows I've worked on that I genuinely loved and I really loved the whole talented crew I worked with. I feel lucky to have been there."
"In a world of of cynical and mean shows, The Great North was not that," Steinberger continued. "The family loves and supports each other. I want to work on more shows like that. Either blood or found family."
In its fifth season, The Great North averaged 532,000 total viewers (with delayed playback), down just 8% from last year. Out of the nine comedies that Fox aired in the 2024–2025 TV season, it ranked dead last. In fact, it was Fox's least-watched scripted anything.
Hailing from Bob's Burgers vets Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Regular Show's Minty Lewis, The Great North first premiered in January 2021, following the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family. Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) voiced single dad Beef, doing his best to keep his bunch of kids close; the voice cast also included Jenny Slate (Big Mouth), Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), Dulcé Sloan (The Daily Show), Paul Rust (Love) and Aparna Nancherla (Corporate).
The Great North aired its fifth — and now final — season finale on Sept. 14. Fox's animated slate still includes Bob's Burgers (renewed through the 2028-29 TV season), Family Guy (renewed through 2028-29), Grimsburg (renewed through 2025-26), Krapopolis (renewed through 2027-28), The Simpsons (renewed through 2028-29) and Universal Basic Guys (renewed through 2026-27).
Additionally, American Dad! — which has spent the past decade airing new episodes on TBS — is returning to original home Fox with a renewal through the 2028-29 season.
