Nathan Fielder Uses Role-Play To Prevent Plane Crashes (?!) In Season 2 Of The Rehearsal — Watch A New Trailer
Nathan Fielder is looking to tackle a serious problem in the new season of The Rehearsal — and as usual, we're having a hard time telling if he's joking or not.
HBO has released a new trailer for Season 2 of Fielder's wildly uncomfortable reality/comedy series, premiering Sunday, Apr. 20 at 10:30/9:30c. In it, Fielder declares that he's been "studying commercial aviation disasters as a hobby," and he's noticed a troubling trend. He doesn't think pilots are rehearsing enough, so he's using his soundstage to help them do that, constructing an elaborate fake airport and, seemingly, testifying in front of Congress. He even surveys the wreckage of a simulated plane crash... but don't worry, the fake victims are healthy enough to croak for "help" as he walks by.
Fielder (of Nathan For You fame) is the star, writer, director and executive producer of The Rehearsal, which "follows one man's journey to reduce the uncertainties of everyday life," per the official description. "With a construction crew, a legion of actors, and seemingly unlimited resources, Fielder helps ordinary people prepare for life's biggest moments by 'rehearsing' them in carefully crafted simulations of his own design."
These simulations are mostly benign, with people wanting to rehearse a big confrontation or confession before they do it for real. The simulations can get out of hand, though — as we learned in Season 1, when Fielder was rehearsing for himself what it would be like to have a child, and one of the child actors playing his son developed a real-life attachment to him. (We're still cringing about that one.)
The Rehearsal debuted in July 2022 on HBO and was renewed the following month. In Season 2, which will consist of six episodes, "the urgency of Fielder's project grows as he decides to put his resources toward an issue that affects us all."
