The Simpsons Movie Sequel Confirmed — And It Already Has A Release Date

The return of Spider-Pig is upon us.

On Monday, 20th Century Studios announced that a theatrical follow-up to 2007's The Simpsons Movie will hit multiplexes 20 years after the original — on Friday, July 23, 2027.

Plot details remain under wraps; the studio behind the iconic Fox cartoon has thus far released a poster, which features Homer Simpson holding a doughnut and the tagline: "Homer's coming back for seconds."

The news comes just hours after the premiere of Season 37 — and roughly six months after Fox handed the animated series a four-season renewal, which will take it through Season 40. Each season will consist of 15 episodes; combined, that'll bring the show's total to a whopping 846 episodes by the end of the 2028-29 season.

The first Simpsons movie was released July 27, 2007, and went on to gross $536 million at the box office.
