Virgin River Renewed For Season 8 At Netflix, Ahead Of Season 7 Premiere

Virgin River is showing no signs of slowing down: Netflix has renewed the romantic drama for Season 8 — which, at least in terms of seasons, makes it the streamer's longest-running, English-language original series to date.

The early pickup, which was first reported by Deadline, comes one week after Season 7 wrapped production. Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, Netflix's Tudum reports. A release date has not yet been announced.

Based on Robyn Carr's popular book series, Virgin River follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who relocates from Los Angeles to the show's titular small town, where she finds love with plaid-skinned bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

After facing every hurdle imaginable — including a vengeful ex, a paternity mystery and a devastating miscarriage — Mel and Jack finally got engaged at the end of Season 4, and their wedding followed in Season 6.

Heading into Season 7, fans have been left with a ton of burning questions — including, but not limited to: What happened to Charmaine? Will Mel and Jack really adopt Marley's baby? And what trouble will be caused by the show's two new additions — Victoria (The Vampire Diaries' Sara Canning), who arrives to investigate Doc before reconnecting with an old friend, and Clay (Riverdale's Cody Kearsley), who comes to town looking for his former foster sister?

"Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together," showrunner Sean Patrick Smith told Tudum. "Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders."

There's also the show's potential spinoff to consider. Netflix was previously developing a prequel series about Mel's parents' early life in Virgin River, of which we got a taste during flashbacks in Season 6. Will that receive a full series order? Do we want it to? There's just so much to think about.

While we wait for answers, hit the comments and let us know if you're looking forward to one at least two more seasons of Virgin River.
