Yellowstone To Continue Airing On CBS After Putting Up Solid Fall Numbers

CBS is gonna continue riding those Yellowstone reruns.

The Eye Network confirmed on Friday that one week after it airs the Kevin Costner-led Western's freshman finale, it will gallop right on into Season 2, on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Season-to-date, CBS' Sunday-night Yellowstone repeats have been averaging 5.49 million weekly viewers (with Live+7 playback), which ranks third among this fall's scant scripted offerings (trailing only NBC freshmen The Irrational and Found). And among all entertainment programs this fall, the Yellowstone reruns ranks No. 6 in total audience.

CBS says that since Yellowstone's Sept. 17 broadcast debut, "nearly 21.6 million viewers have tuned in to at least one episode." The network also claims that of those viewers, "Over half (52%) are new to the series, having not seen a single episode in the past year on either linear or streaming."

New Yellowstone episodes are still in serious limbo given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, yes, but also well-reported issues with series lead and EP Costner and his questionable involvement in the hit cable series moving forward. The Season 5A finale aired on Jan. 1, and another six episodes remain to be filmed. Yellowstone is not yet renewed beyond Season 5, though an offshoot starring Matthew McConaughey is in the works.

On Sunday, Oct. 29 at 9/8c, Season 2 on CBS opens with "A Thundering," in which Kayce (played by Luke Grimes) settles into his new role at the ranch, a damaging article threatens to expose John, and Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) pitches his new plan to the tribal council.
