Dexter: Resurrection's David Zayas Teases 'A Lot Of Problems' Ahead For Batista: 'There Are Some Things He Can't Let Go'

As the ELO song that ends Dexter: Resurrection's seventh episode sings: There's gonna be a showdown.

There's only three episodes left of the latest Dexter season's run and Angel Batista is like a dog with a bone. With retirement just on the horizon, the former Miami Metro PD captain just can't let it go: He knows in his gut that Dexter Morgan is the Bay Harbor Butcher, but that hard proof that Detectives Wallace and Oliva demand? He's got nada. Zip. Zilch. But Batista refuses to return home to sunny Florida just yet. Not until he can prove who Dexter really is.

"If you think about Original Sin, Batista's known this man for 30 years," David Zayas tells TVLine. "He's been working side by side with him, sharing personal stuff with him, going to his wedding, having great affection for him and his sister and his wife and his kid. To find all that out now, all the truth, I don't think somebody like Batista could let that go. Until the truth comes out. Until there's justice to be had."

In the upcoming episode (which hits Paramount+ Premium Friday and airs on Paramount+ With Showtime Sunday at 8/7c), Batista comes closer than ever before to catching his former colleague in the act. After planting his Airpods in Dexter's car, Batista begins to track his every move, attempting to predict what he might do next and where. While Wallace and Oliva do listen to Batista's hunches, they don't seem to buy into his theory... yet.

"They have their own way of working, and I think both Detective Wallace and Oliva, they're smart, good cops," Zayas adds. "They know how to play off each other. They know how to do their job together. Batista's trying to get all the proper evidence so that they can then go ahead and do their job because he has no authority in New York, right? But with him it's a personal thing. He's not gonna let it go because he won't be able to live with it."

Thanks to those trusty Airpods, Batista is able to follow Dexter to a secret location. But will he be able to lock down that solid proof he needs to get Wallace and Oliva on board?

"He's gonna have to try and find something to convince these people that Dexter Morgan is the Bay Harbor butcher," says Zayas. "How can he do that? He's already told all his stories to them. As usual, Dexter's highly intelligent. He escapes everything, every chance he gets. Batista's been studying him, particularly while he's in New York City, and he just needs to catch him red-handed so that there will be no question of who he is."

So about that brewing showdown. Dexter warned Batista that "this can't possibly end well for you." But can Batista finally — finally! — catch Dex in the act?

"Batista understands that this may not end well for him, and I just think he's past that," says Zayas. "He's already in. He's already gonna do his thing. He understands the danger, but there are some things that he can't let go, and he's got to try and do the right thing, in the right way, and that leads to a lot of problems."
