Adults Finale Serves Up A Surprise Wedding And A New Love Triangle — Are You In For A Season 2?
FX's Adults really are growing up, with two of them walking down the aisle in the season finale.
It all starts with the gang finally tackling their overflowing mailbox in Wednesday's finale. Amid all the postcards from Samir's parents and jailhouse letters from the stabber from Episode 3, Paul Baker gets a shock: His visa is expiring, and he has to leave the country. (He's Canadian, eh.) It looks like he has to head north as soon as possible... unless he gets married! ("My aunt married three desperate Greek men," Anton offers. "She's like a human Mamma Mia.") Paul Baker is hesitant, but Issa gets down on one knee and pops the question herself — and he says yes!
There's one problem, though: Issa is already married... to Zack-Carlos, a "nightmare twink" who she married on a whim — and is still bitter for being ghosted by Issa and her friends. He refuses to sign off on the divorce unless the friends let him move in (so he can stop living with his mother). The friends all head to a club to celebrate, where Billie hits it off with an amorous couple looking for a threesome (played by The Good Place's D'Arcy Carden and Search Party's John Reynolds). But Issa refuses to tell Paul Baker she already has a husband: "He loves honesty. He's obsessed with it. That's why we have to lie." And when a bartender flirts with Anton, it kinda seems like he's more into... Paul Baker? Yep, we could see this getting messy.
The wedding day arrives, and Issa dons Samir's mom's wedding dress for the big day, while Samir and Anton talk Zack-Carlos into signing off on the divorce. (Plus, Billie's threesome went south when the husband admitted he hates hooking up with other people. She went through it anyway.) But when it's time to walk down the aisle, Issa starts having second thoughts. Billie walks down the aisle as the bride instead, in a bid to keep Paul Baker in the country — and Samir even offers to step in. (No, he's not gay, but "I've seen it. I can get there.") But then Zack-Carlos lets it spill that he just divorced Issa, and Paul Baker is devastated that she lied to him. They all want to marry him... so who actually did?
We find out when the gang gets home and Paul Baker cuddles up next to his new spouse — Anton! Their friends encourage them to kiss to seal the deal... and whoa, their kiss gets a little passionate, actually. They throw on a movie to change the subject, but we're left thinking about what's next for these crazy kids. We've gotten some hints that there might be some heat between Anton and Paul Baker. Could that make things really complicated for the gang next season? If there is a next season, that is: FX has yet to officially renew Adults for a second season. After an emotional cliffhanger like that, though, we're definitely going to need some closure.
