All Rise Premiere Recap: Tragedy Strikes With Unexpected Death — Plus, Grade It
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Saturday's All Rise premiere. Proceed at your own risk!
The long-awaited return of All Rise did indeed feature a fatality — but the fallen party was not at all who viewers might have been expecting it to be. (Our money was on Teddy!)
Two weeks after the violent incident at the HOJ, the judges, lawyers and rest of the employees are back at work, even as the trauma continues to follow them. An angry outburst that turns physical during trial has Lola shaken up, while a pigeon's loud landing outside the courtroom window startles everyone, including Emily and Luke, who are working as co-counsels on a case.

Following the attack from the midseason finale, Luke is sporting an arm sling, but thankfully, he's well enough to leave hand-in-hand with Emily after winning their case to talk about their earlier "L-word" exchange. And the lovebirds might be working side-by-side more in the future, because the Public Defender's office is determined to get Emily back.
Perhaps shockingly, given how grave his condition looked, Teddy also survived the shooting and is back in court alongside Mark. But it seems his experience did change him, because he has no problem talking back to Mark or exclaiming at the defendant after cross-examination is already over.

Ness' condition is far less positive at the start of the episode, which finds her unconscious in the hospital. Amy, Sara and Lola are by her beside throughout the hour, trying to stay optimistic even as the doctor warns that things could take a turn for the worse. As the episode's end nears, Ness starts to flatline. But the death that has Amy in tears doesn't involve Ness, who recovers and wakes up.
It's actually Amy's husband Collier who's dead. Collier's demise is particularly unexpected because Amy told Mark that Collier's lupus was in remission, and that she was finally submitting the divorce papers. But who knows if she's still going to do that and proceed with her wedding to Mark while she's grieving. At least if the nuptials fall apart, Mark can commiserate with Lola, whose own marriage is in shambles.
Lola was working up to telling Robin about her kiss with Dre (who's still incessantly texting her), when Robin beats her to the punch and reveals that he witnessed it. Lola apologizes and explains that she was in shock when it happened, but Robin needs some time to process. He announces that he's leaving town to take Bailey to visit his parents, which Lola sees as him punishing her by taking her child away.
In other personal news, Sherri gets a surprise visit from her mom, who temporarily left the community the cult to take Sherri's dad to the hospital. Then she just leaves him with Sherri and goes back to the community!
