Dexter: Resurrection Recap: Dexter's Connection With Mia Takes A Shocking Turn
If you were 'shipping Dexter and Mia's budding relationship — whether as romantic partners or strictly as murderous colleagues — brace yourself for impact.
Friday's episode of Dexter: Resurrection pushes the Dexter/Mia narrative even further, with Mia suggesting something wild: a ménage-à-trois. Only she doesn't mean in the bedroom. She wants to collaborate with the Dark Passenger on a kill. Dexter is immediately on guard and cautious about the idea, while Harry is understandably against it. There's also the fact that if Dexter was to ever reveal his true identity to Mia, she could tell Prater and all hell could break loose. (Stealing someone's identity can get kinda tricky.)
But then Dexter learns one damning piece of Mia's backstory: She doesn't have a code after all. "I just enjoy killing," she tells him, "and when I have an itch, I scratch it." Her Lady Vengeance nickname is just something the media made up to fuel the story. Her victims aren't predators. She's the predator, and she's hungry for a new kill tonight.
Just before they get into a rideshare, Dexter breaks the whole thing off. Mia's pissed, but heads out to find her next target anyway, giving Dex time to break into her apartment. He's not waiting in the dark to kill her though. No, that would look too obvious if two of Prater's crew suddenly disappeared after welcoming a new addition to their group. Instead, he plants Ryan Foster's watch among Mia's trophies, finds a nice viewing spot across the way and calls the cops before she's able to rip her new victim to pieces. The cops bust in, arrest her and find the watch among some other damning bits of evidence. Nicely done, Dex!
Episode 5 also brings Harrison and Dexter closer together. After preventing Harrison from turning himself in, Dexter's able to explain to the kid how he's still alive and why he isn't in jail. He also tells him he knows all about Ryan Foster. Harrison is traumatized, unable to live with the guilt and the nightmares he's been having. Maybe father and son aren't exactly the same after all. Harrison gives his dad a heads up that he talked to Batista, but he didn't tell the detective anything. No big, Dexter says. Batista has nothing. For now, at least.
Batista is still hanging out in New York City, though, and as he's working, he sees a news report on TV. He's shocked to learn that Lady Vengeance has been arrested for the murder of Ryan Foster. As is Harrison. Dexter finally tells Harrison the truth about Rita's murder and the Trinity Killer. He also promises to never try to mold him into his form ever again. Dexter still wants to have a family, and Harrison is all he has, he says. The two finally make peace.
Meanwhile, Charley goes to visit Mia in prison. Mia promises not to ask for help or do anything stupid. Charley tells her their "mutual friend" appreciates that. And he'll make sure her time there is as comfortable and "short" as possible. Hmm...
