Doctor Odyssey Solves Its Pregnancy Mystery In The Worst Way Possible — Plus, Dianna Agron Is [Spoiler]'s Wife!
And the father of Avery's baby is... not the man you were hoping.
Back in Episode 8, Avery revealed she had tested positive on a pregnancy test after a rousing evening spent with her two coworkers, Max and Tristan. But ever since then, I've been patiently waiting to find out the identity of the father — until now.
Thursday's episode finally reveals the truth: Avery is not, in fact, pregnant! The test was a false positive. She is suffering from a cyst, which she says will be removed on land during their next docking.
For a while, I hoped Doctor Odyssey was drawing out the pregnancy mystery in preparation for some big, over-the-top reveal: The nurse's fetus was a medical mystery and possessed DNA qualities of both men! Or Avery finds out she has two uteruses and each is occupied by the other man's baby! Or the show was drawing out the storyline on purpose, as part of TVLine's Fever Dream Theory.
But no, Mr. Ryan Murphy has bamboozled me — and you! — with one big, dirty, daddy-less trick. I am dumbfounded, disappointed and speechless.
Fortunately, I'm able to carry on through the written word and continue this recap: Episode 14 also sees Glee grad Dianna Agron boarding the ship as Captain Massey's late wife. While contemplating his former love and his future as a father, Massey conjures up the apparition of his beloved Catherine. Then, Massey becomes the younger version of himself (played by Don Johnson's real-life son Jesse Johnson!) to share a sweet moment with his departed wife. Backed by the soft whir of the tub's bubbling jets, Massey finally gets what he needs: permission to move on with his life. (Aww!)
