Doctor Odyssey Gets Super Frisky During Singles Week — Read Recap

Shania Twain, Chord Overstreet and Stephanie Suganami (aka Kim Kardashian's real-life former assistant) on Thursday night boarded Doctor Odyssey for a unique version of at-sea hell: The emotional shipwreck that is Singles Week!

Episode 2 of the ABC medical drama begins with Dr. Max and Tristan addressing their romantic indiscretions from last week. (Read premiere recap.) Apparently, there is a Human Resources department — or at least a code of conduct — on this boat, and Max did violate that by kissing Avery. He promises it won't happen again! (But we hope Max is a big, fat liar because we are putty in his hands and 'shipping this boatmance already.)

Later, Tristan and Max call a truce — for now — while bonding over the demerits of one particularly embarrassing single (played by Glee grad Overstreet) with a case of what he calls "probably eczema," but what anyone with access to WebMD and a brain would call an STI. Of course, the truce doesn't last even an episode, as Tristan and Avery ultimately share a kiss on the boat's balcony — and yes, Max did see everything because somehow, on a ship this big, everyone is always in the right place at the right time.

But when they aren't kissing, flirting or butting heads, our trio faces medical mayhem! As a slew of singles seeking shallow, at-sea connections boards the boat, the team responds to several Singles Week emergencies. The first? Treating injuries after a group of women fight over a man in the hot tub. (Is there any other way to kick off what Avery calls the "pilgrimage to mecca for the chronically insecure"?)

Meanwhile, one hopeful widow (Twain) has her sights set on fellow widow Massey. (Man! She feels like a seaman!) Their romantic date is interrupted, however, when he suffers a mysterious medical event. (If we were shucking oysters across from the Shania Twain, we probably would lose the ability to function, too.) Massey's official medical diagnosis is merely a broken heart from missing his late wife. (Aw!)

Another passenger named Kelly (Suganami) suffers a similar fate when she passes out in Tristan's arms after the pair hit it off at the welcome dinner. The team suspects a heart issue, and kicks it into high gear to take a photo of the organ — in an invasive, gag-worthy fashion, we might add — but are stumped when all appears well. (Per Tristan's suggestion, perhaps she did just swoon too hard?) Turns out, she was simply ingesting a diuretic in an effort to shed pounds and become her skinniest, hottest, best Singles Week self.

The episode ends with a shipwrecked woman reuniting with her lost-at-sea husband. Because amid all the Singles Week chaos, the team also saved a woman stranded alone on a rescue boat! Plus, we learn Max's preferred drink: a martini "vigorously shaken" with three olives. Does it get any dreamier than that?
