Suits LA Pays Tribute To John Amos As Ted And Rick Try To Get Walk Of Fame Star For Late Actor — Watch Video

John Amos' last acting role before his death in August 2024 was in the series premiere of Suits LA, and this Sunday, the NBC drama paid tribute to the late actor with a significant storyline.

Amos played himself in the spinoff's Feb. 23, 2025 debut, which introduced him as a client at the entertainment law firm run by Stephen Amell's Ted Black. While he was Ted's first client, he was more recently represented by Rick Dodson (played Bryan Greenberg), so both characters were shaken to learn in this week's episode, fittingly titled "Good Times," that John had passed away. Former colleagues Ted and Rick met up at a restaurant to drink their sorrows away — Rick, especially, hit the booze hard — and to reminisce about their client/friend.

"Look at that. He's gone, and he's still putting us back together," Ted remarked, before he and Rick toasted to "America's father."

When a drunken Rick later stumbled onto the sidewalk, he noted that not one of the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was for the late actor. "But we're going to change that. Forever," Rick added dramatically.

Although the idea was born under the influence, it was a good one. Ted and Rick took it to a member of the board at the Walk of Fame, who guaranteed them a star in two years. But that wasn't good enough for Ted.

"The man's a legend, he's an icon," Ted exclaimed, adding that "John Amos was the Sidney Poitier of television. He broke new ground for Black America, and he was a father figure for all of America! He should have had a star decades ago, and if you can't recognize that, you're in the wrong goddamn business!"

Needless to say, he did not win over the board member, who had never seen Good Times or Roots, and Ted was also not thrilled when Rick announced that he later talked the guy down.

"Do you know what happens with time, Rick?! People forget! Well, I am not going to let them forget John!" Ted shouted.

Of course, Ted's anger came down to his own daddy issues. "I'd been avoiding John for weeks because the last time that we spoke, we had a fight. I didn't take his advice," Ted explained to Rick.

John had told Ted to forgive his father before he died. Now, Ted had also lost John, who, along with his Good Times character, were "exactly who I wanted my dad to be — honest, strong, tough, would do anything for their kids," Ted shared.

In the premiere, John had given Ted some more wisdom, telling him that he was recreating his troubled dynamic with his father in his relationships with Rick and his former friend/business partner Stuart. Ted apologized to Rick for that, but Rick responded that the conversation they were currently having meant he was already ahead of the game.

"You know what you're saying? That idiot Amos was wrong," Ted joked. "Too soon?"

"What's he going to do? Fire us?" Rick replied.

And Ted and Rick weren't the only pair John's passing brought together: The episode ended with Ted and Kevin, and Rick and Erica, separately, watching the Good Times episode "The Gang: Part 2," in which Amos gives an emotional performance to the roaring applause of the studio audience. A dedication to Amos closed out the hour.
