The Morning Show's Reese Witherspoon And Jennifer Aniston Discuss Episode 3's Major Hookup: 'Oh, We're Going There'

Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Morning Show Season 4, Episode 3. Proceed accordingly.

After three seasons of dancing around each other and a worst-timed declaration of love ever, Bradley and Cory get together in this week's The Morning Show.

"That surprised me, when I read it," series star/executive producer Reese Witherspoon, who plays Bradley, tells TVLine. "I was like, 'Oh, we are going there.'"

The romance — or is it? — gets underway when Bradley stops by Cory's apartment toward the end of the episode. They have wine. They talk about whether she implicated him with the feds (she says she didn't). They discuss what their working relationship would be like if he came back to work at the network.

"I had convinced myself that you hated me," she says. "I didn't. I don't," he replies. And as Cory stammers about how he'd understand if she wants him to keep his distance, she slowly walks toward him until their faces are almost touching. Then she kisses him. The final scene of the hour is the two of them, naked, in Cory's bed, holding hands and smiling at each other post-sex.

What we know, though, and Cory doesn't: After talking with Claire, Bradley suspects that Cory knows something about UBA's cover-up of the environmental incident. So the romantic overture? Maybe not so romantic.

"Of course, in true Morning Show style, we finally get this moment between Cory and Bradley. But Bradley's really, behind the scenes, taking advantage of him," Witherspoon continues. "I think it's so interesting, too, their dynamic. I can't even make heads or tails of it sometimes, why they're so enmeshed." She laughs. "And they kind of antagonize each other."

Her co-star/fellow executive producer Jennifer Aniston, who's sitting next to her, chimes in. "They just keep going back!"

Witherspoon nods. "I know. And you would think they would just draw the line with each other for good," she says.

Aniston sighs, then says: "They love each other."

That... is debatable! But while you're mulling whether Cory and Bradley have any staying power once her story is filed, here are the highlights of what happened elsewhere in Episode 3, "Tipping Point":

* Bradley and Chip find Claire, who was arrested during the protests. She's not psyched Chip is involved, but she tells them to check out a woman named Bethanne Hines who was a bigwig at UBA when the story was spiked. Bethanne is retired now, and she tells Chip she doesn't know anything and can't help him. But before he leaves, she types a secret message into his phone: "Check UBA archives. Oct. 2018 Wolf River depositions."

* Alex's reporting on the lobbyists infiltrating the climate summit ticked off an oil exec whose company takes out a lot of advertising on UBN. So, at Stella and Celine's urging, she goes to a reception to apologize/kiss the ring... and runs into Paul Marks, who is dating someone new. Alex has a bigger reaction to the news than she expected, given that they broke up two years before. Then, Paul corners her and wants to have it out. "You lied to me," she says. "You humiliated me," he counters. He posits that she's angry because he found someone. "First!" she says, agreeing and starting to cry. "Why did you have to find someone first?" He ultimately winds up helping her smooth things over, claiming to get nothing out of doing so, then he leaves with his new lady while Alex looks sad.

* Both Alex and Bradley promise Mia that they'll be at the meeting with Stella and Celine where Mia formally pitches herself to be head of the news division. But they both bail (Bradley because she's tied up with Claire, Alex because she's stuck at the reception), and it goes downhill from there. Celine isn't enthusiastic about Mia as an exec. "I'm not sure I see a greater vision here," she sniffs. And though Stella argues in Mia's favor, Celine likes Olympics wunderkind Ben for the job. And, if Stella agrees to give the position to Ben, Celine will be OK with giving Cory the deal he asked for (aka the one that will keep his mouth shut about Stella and Miles' affair). So, of course, they go with Ben. Mia doesn't take the news well. Angry and incredibly hurt, Mia quits; after she leaves the office, Stella sobs.
