The Summer I Turned Pretty's Belly Chooses [Spoiler] In Dramatic Series Finale

Belly has finally picked her boy — but did she make the right choice?

The Summer I Turned Pretty's series finale finally brought a resolution to the love triangle that spanned all three seasons of the YA adaptation. But before we get into how things concluded with Belly, let's recap where our other major characters ended up.

To start, Steven gets a job offer in San Francisco, but keeps it a secret from Taylor. She eventually finds out, leading to a fight. They quickly move on, with Taylor straddling Steven out on the Cousins dock, and they agree to move to the West Coast together. Meanwhile, Jeremiah is becoming the internet's newest, hottest young chef, and hosts a dinner party for influencers in Cousins. He nails the meal, and seals things off with a kiss with Denise. (!)

Now for the real fun: When Conrad arrives in Paris, he heads straight to Belly's apartment. She wasn't expecting him, so she's nowhere to be found. Conrad pops a squat on the curb across the street, waiting for his beloved Belly to return home. It's the day before her birthday, and he wants to celebrate.

Finally, Belly rolls up with Benito, a bike and a fresh new bob! Benito drops Belly at her door, sharing a romantic kiss before he whizzes away. Even after witnessing the flirty exchange — which was reminiscent of the groundbreaking Lizzie McGuire Movie — Conrad finds the courage to approach Belly.

She's shocked, surprised and a tad confused. What's he doing here? When did he get here? How long is he in town? Conrad explains it all, that he's in Paris for work (sort of) and expects to catch a train to Brussels later that evening. Though she says she has plans later that evening, Belly agrees to spend the day sightseeing with Conrad.

The two embark on a Paris pilgrimage, which, if you think about it for too long, won't make much sense at all. (I mean, really, a double-decker bus tour, the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles all in one afternoon? As if!) The day ends, with Belly taking Conrad to her private Parisian thinking spot. There, sparks begin to fly, so Belly invites Conrad to come to her birthday dinner that evening.

But what about his train, you say? We'll get to that! In the meantime, their connection begins to deepen even more. Conrad reveals he remembers every little thing Belly has ever said — not in a creepy way, but in a totally lovesick sort of way — reminding her that she once believed marijuana messes with white matter. (Whatever that means!) She has since changed her stance, smoking a joint at the dinner table.

After dinner, the two go back to Belly's apartment and start hooking up, with Taylor Swift's "Dress" playing in the background. "I dream about this. You," Conrad says before things really start to heat up.

But when morning rolls around, the energy shifts, and our girl spirals into a fit of overthinking. Is this even real, Belly wonders? What was Conrad's plan? What if he just feels compelled to be with her since he knows it was what Susannah wanted? How might their lives have been different if Susannah never died?

"How are we supposed to know if we love each other because we want to, and not because we were told to?" she says. Though he reiterates his love for Belly, she's not having it. A dejected Conrad ultimately heads off to catch a train. It's over.

But then, Belly realizes: She's the same girl she's always been, and that's OK. "I have brown hair and brown eyes, and I will always love Conrad Fisher." (Um... duh?!) She runs after him, screaming his name, hoping to catch him before it's too late. When she can't find him outside, she takes a taxi to the station, boards a train and starts searching for him among the rows of tired travelers.

Finally, she finds him, and with her infinity necklace on, Belly proclaims her love: "Conrad, I choose you of my own free will. If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in every one of them."

And they kiss, and return to Cousins some time later, together and happy — that is, until the Summer I Turned Pretty movie comes out and throws a wrench into everything!
