The Voice Recap: Did The Right Five Singers Make It To The Finale?

Following Monday night's performances by The Voice's Top 8 (read the recap here), there was no doubt about who Season 26's frontrunner was: Team Michael Bublé's seemingly unstoppable Sofronio Vasquez. (In fact, he was named the evening's standout by more than 36 percent of the respondents to TVLine's poll.) But who else advanced to next week's finale?

Before we found out, Reba McEntire gently tugged at our heartstrings with "Consider Me Gone," Gwen Stefani emerged from a station wagon to sing "Somebody Else's" surrounded by dancers with more energy than she had, and Snoop's Death Row Records artist October London worked his "3rd Shift" single to exceedingly smooth effect.

And in the moment(s) of truth...

Sofronio Vasquez (Team Bublé) — no surprise there, eh?
Sydney Sterlace (Team Gwen)
Jeremy Beloate (Team Snoop)

Wildcard Instant Save

Christina Eagle (Team Snoop), "Heart Like a Truck" — Grade: A- | I figured Christina had an advantage going into the Instant Save, what with her being the only country singer. (Then again, that didn't get her a pass to the finale, did it?) On top of that, she delivered a kickass vocal when it counted. At first, I was like, "A ballad? Really?" But it did give her a chance to show off, and she made the most of it.

Adam Bohanan (Team Reba), "Pretty Wings" — Grade: B | Oh dear. From the start, I feared that Adam had selected a song that was too laid-back to sway viewers to vote for him. The guy is so, so talented, but for some reason, he opted not to lean into his strengths. He got to slay some amazing long notes, yes, but the number itself was just too tuneless and all over the place to win him the Save.

Jan Dan (Team Gwen), "Gravity" — Grade: B+ | Jan Dan was perfectly polished here; this may even have been his strongest performance. But what were these contestants thinking, going over and over again with snoozy ballads when what they really needed to do was wake the audience the hell up? Maybe Jan Dan realized he'd made a mistake at the end, because he sure seemed like he didn't want to finish his last run.

Danny Joseph (Team Reba), "House of the Rising Sun" — Grade: C+ | Sure, one more ballad. Why not? From the get-go, Danny delivered the sort of raucous vocal for which he's known (and loved). But the performance wasn't loose and casual so much as it was messy. It felt to me like a really gifted singer who had thrown in the towel and was going through the motions.

Saved | Danny Joseph (Team Reba)

Eliminated | Adam Bohanan (Team Reba), Jan Dan (Team Gwen) and Christina Eagle (Team Snoop)
