TWD: Daryl Dixon Recap: Survivor's Guilt Bites Harder Than A Walker

We had a feeling things would end badly for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's new couple Roberto and Justina — and sure enough, the star-crossed lovebirds were separated by the end of Sunday's episode.

In this week's installment, Guillermo and the El Alcazar men weren't happy that three of them went missing the night before — courtesy of Daryl — or that Carol was speaking out about the fun "stealing young girls" tradition they have going on. He warned Fede he needed to prove his loyalty, and Fede started planning a quick exit for Daryl and Carol: "The sooner they leave, the better." Daryl felt the same way, actually: He urged Carol to grab what she can and get ready to leave town, and while Carol felt bad about the girl Alba who got offered up to El Alcazar, Daryl shot back: "Who the f–k's Alba?" Oh Daryl, you ol' softie.

Roberto gave Justina a gift of a compass on a necklace ("so you can always find me") before joining Daryl on a search for someone to repair his wrecked boat. They met up with an old lady, Valentina, who used to captain cruise ships and now lives in a remote lighthouse. She didn't have much hope for repairing Daryl's boat — it needed a whole new rudder — but she pointed him and Roberto to an old shipyard where he might find spare parts. She made Daryl agree, though, to take Roberto and Justina along on his boat ride to America. (Roberto's a Bruce Springsteen fan, it turns out, and needs to see New Jersey with his own eyes.)

Carol, meanwhile, kept building her connection with Roberto's dad Antonio, who patched up her shoulder wound while revealing that Roberto's mother died in an accident — but wouldn't say more. He also showed Carol his extensive collection of old film reels; the guy's a real movie buff, declaring that "cinema is the record of humanity" and pledging to preserve it for future generations. Carol said that reminded her of TWD's Jerry — remember him, from the Ezekiel days? — and Daryl also indulged in a little nostalgia, leaving a Rubik's Cube at a roadside memorial in honor of Laurent. "Used to belong to a kid I know," Daryl told Roberto. "Maybe he's got a new one by now."

Those two made it to an abandoned shipyard and found the rudder they need — but they also woke up a swarm of walkers, with Daryl dispatching all of them himself. (You wanna pitch in a little here, Roberto?) While Paz and Guillermo's wife Elena had a secret dalliance in bed, Justina found a collection of ribbons bearing her name among her Uncle Fede's things. Has he been protecting her from being selected? The guilt overwhelmed her, and she ran crying to Carol, wishing she could do something to help Alba. She came up with a solution, too: Before Daryl and Roberto got back to town, Justina volunteered to take Alba's place, leaving with the El Alcazar men before Carol could stop her.
