TWD: Daryl Dixon's Season 3 Premiere Was A 'Must-Sea' — But Did They Really Have To Kill [Spoiler]?!?
Ahoy, mateys! The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's Season 3 set sail Sunday night with a special guest star (Stephen Merchant), new settings (first England, then Spain) and the most disastrous boating expedition this side of Gilligan's Island. Let's discuss, shall we?
As "Costa da Morte" began, Daryl and Carol took in some spectacular scenery while rehashing a bit of the Season 2 finale rather than simply refer one another to TVLine's recap. Before long, they found themselves trapped by walkers in a posh London flat, where they befriended Merchant's Julian, in his estimation "the last Englishman in England."
Julian was delighted to have made new friends; his new friends, delighted to hear that he had a boat. In a matter of minutes, Daryl and Carol had persuaded him to ferry them home to America. Though Julian wasn't exactly an ace navigator and his companions, hardly expert seamen, they managed to get on track to hit North America in under two weeks. Miraculous, right?
Alas, that was before the storm hit. Julian was KO'd, the ship, wrecked, and the next thing we knew, Julian was not only dead but turned. (Dang it, I liked him. A lot. Why can't we have nice things?!?) Worst of all, as Carol quickly realized, "Oh s—t, this isn't Maine, is it?" Nope. They'd only made it as far as Spain.
After a treacherous night in which Daryl had to remove a piece of metal from Carol's shoulder and the boat was ransacked by equestrians in bull-horn masks, the twosome put the walking back in The Walking Dead. "I think I hate this place," Carol admitted.
Who could blame her? Someone had strung up nets full of walkers overhead like the world's ickiest piñatas. After the duo spent a night hiding out in a shack — because there's always a shack, wherever they are, isn't there? — Carol awakened to hear... Was that children laughing?
Meanwhile, Daryl was out hunting for lunch when he spotted a jeep full of menace. Well, technically, just men, not menace, but he took them to be a menace. Whether or not they meant the tourists any harm, Daryl wasn't going to flag them down and ask. Nevertheless, by the time he had hurried back to the shack, Carol was gone.
