The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox Trailer: Grace Van Patten Stars As The Accused Killer In Hulu's Docudrama
Amanda Knox's wild true story is getting the scripted docudrama treatment.
Hulu has released a trailer for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, starring Grace Van Patten (Tell Me Lies) as the accused killer, premiering Wednesday, Aug. 20 with the first two episodes. In the trailer — which you can watch below — Amanda's parents sneak her back into Italy as she narrates, "Why would I return to a country where I was convicted of murder? Because in order to move forward, I need to go back."
We see Amanda as a fresh-faced American college student studying abroad in Italy, but her world comes crashing down when her roommate Meredith is brutally murdered — and Amanda is arrested for the crime. The Italian tabloids spin wild stories about her, and the local prosecutor is convinced of her guilt, leading to a stunning conviction that has her spend four years in prison before she wins her freedom on appeal. "Many people think they know my story," Amanda says, "but now, finally, it's my turn to tell it."
Joining Van Patten in the cast are Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) and John Hoogenakker (Dopesick) as Amanda's parents, along with Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei. KJ Steinberg (This Is Us) serves as creator and executive producer, and the real Amanda Knox is an EP as well.
