Clipped Trailer: Laurence Fishburne And Ed O'Neill Go One-On-One In Hulu's Take On L.A. Clippers Scandal
L.A.'s other basketball team can make headlines, too... just maybe for the wrong reasons.
FX has released the official trailer for the docudrama Clipped — streaming exclusively on Hulu beginning Tuesday, June 4 — which chronicles the controversy that led to L.A. Clippers team owner Donald Sterling being banned for life by the NBA and forced to sell the team. Modern Family alum Ed O'Neill stars as Sterling, a crass billionaire who lets his "assistant" and alleged mistress V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) come to team meetings and sit courtside, which understandably rankles his wife Shelly (Jacki Weaver).
Sterling hires veteran coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) to lead the Clippers, but as Rivers points out, "the Clippers have never won a championship. Ever." He soon realizes why, too, when he sees how Sterling treats the team as his personal playground. Things go from bad to worse when V. starts recording her conversations with Sterling — where he says things like, "Don't bring Black people to my games" — and the recordings get leaked, leading to a full-on team revolt.
The Clipped cast also includes Kelly AuCoin (Billions) as Sterling's right-hand man Andy Roeser, J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) as Clippers star point guard Chris Paul and Rich Sommer (Mad Men) as the team's beleaguered PR man Seth Burton. The six-episode series is based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast "The Sterling Affairs," with Gina Welch (FEUD: Bette and Joan) serving as creator and showrunner.
