Frasier Alum David Hyde Pierce To Star In Sitcom In The Works At NBC

Raise a glass of sherry, "Frasier" fans: David Hyde Pierce is eyeing a return to NBC.

The four-time Emmy winner will star in a new multi-cam sitcom in the works at NBC, Deadline reports. Details are scarce on the untitled project, but Pierce is said to be playing "a man who discovers that the unexamined life can bite you in the a*s." Marco Pennette ("Mom," "Caroline in the City") will pen the pilot and serve as an executive producer along with Pierce.

Pierce is best known for playing Niles Crane, the fussy brother of the equally fussy Frasier Crane, on NBC's "Frasier," which ran for 11 seasons on NBC from 1993 to 2004. Pierce won four Emmys for best supporting actor in a comedy for his work as Niles, out of 11 total nominations. His recent TV credits include "The Good Wife" and "Julia." 

"Frasier" returned for a revival on Paramount+ in 2023, with Kelsey Grammer reprising his lead role as Frasier Crane. But Pierce did not return as Niles, although other show alums like Peri Gilpin (Roz) and Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith) did. When asked about Pierce's absence, Grammer said that "David basically decided he wasn't really interested in repeating the performance of Niles." The "Frasier" revival was canceled after two seasons.
