Big Brother Sends Two Jurors Packing In Double Eviction Episode — Who Left The House?

Spooky season hasn't arrived just yet, but the "Big Brother" houseguests still got a decent scare on Thursday night: It's time for a double eviction!

Actually, there were two scares at play during Thursday's XL broadcast. Not only would two players be leaving the house on the same night, but the evening also marked the end of this season's BB Blockbuster competitions, removing a key opportunity for nominees to score safety. From here on out, we're back to two nominees, and their only salvation will come from the Power of Veto.

Ahead of the double eviction, Yash had struck a deal with original target Drew, allowing Drew to save himself with the veto — and making Barrett the likely first evictee on Thursday, if he couldn't pull off a Blockbuster win. But how did the final Blockbuster play out? And did Dee and Devens both emerge unscathed from the double eviction? Read on for the finer details of Thursday's pivotal episode.

Even though we've got three competitions and two evictions to get through, the first half of the first half of Thursday's episode is still devoted to pre-taped content. In the main house, the seven remaining houseguests start to map out the many different ways that the next few evictions could unfold, with allegiances seemingly shifting every few minutes. Are Dee and Devens currently in an alliance with Yash and Taylor? Yep! Are Dee and Devens still planning to turn on Yash the first chance they get? They are! As for Drew and Devens, they still have a good rapport, but when Devens starts acting cagey in a strategy chat with his surrogate son, Drew ponders whether he should stay aligned with Devens for much longer.

'Round and 'round the conversations go. Barrett nominated Devens last week, but now he tells Devens he's willing to go after Yash instead, if it means Devens will keep Barrett in the house. Melody tells Dee that she did want to keep Dee around last week, but ultimately voted Dee out when she thought the other newbies were going to do the same. It's a long few days of fibbing, campaigning, and booty-kissing — but it still seems Barrett's days are numbered if he doesn't notch that Blockbuster victory. (Meanwhile, Angela joins Lala in the jury house, and they confirm what the home audience already knows to be true: that this is the "Survivor" icons' game to lose.)

In the Blockbuster, Taylor, Barrett, and Melody face a ball balancing game in which they must be the first player to navigate five balls down to the bottom of a curvy, tilting board that they maneuver with their hands. And in the summer's most expect-the-unexpected moment so far, Melody pulls out the win and gets her first competition triumph of the season. Better late than never!

Once Melody's off the block, it seems pretty obvious how the eviction will go, given the events of the last two weeks — and indeed, Barrett is evicted by a 3-1 vote, with only Melody voting to keep him. (Drew, as you'll recall, was asked to keep Taylor as a condition of his Pressure Cooker deal with Yash, but we're left to forever wonder if Drew really would have kept Barrett if he didn't have that agreement hanging over his head. Hey, he voted Mallory out, so you never know.)

Barrett makes a very quick exit — nearly as fast as Michael Bruner's a few seasons ago — and has a level-headed interview with Julie Chen Moonves: He has no regrets, he'd nominate the three icons in every lifetime, yadda yadda yadda. Then, the real fun begins as the houseguests learn of the double eviction and head out to the backyard... where Melody wins Head of Household?! Was she saving up all this moxie for the end?

Yep, after weeks of telling herself and others to "lock in" for these competitions, Melody seems to do just that, and she correctly answers the highest number of true-or-false questions about short video clips that are shown to the houseguests. And though it seems like Melody might be wavering on her plan to nominate the icons if she ever got power — I can't be the only one worried by all that strategizing she's doing in the bathroom after winning, right? — she ultimately stays the course and puts Devens and Dee on the block.

Up next, it's the Power of Veto competition, which requires players to piece together a Great Wall of China puzzle, roll a ball down their completed puzzle and into a chute at the end of the lane, and hit their buzzer. And though it seems at first like everyone is moving respectably fast through their puzzles, an aerial shot reveals to us that Devens is actually way ahead of everyone else — and just seconds later, he finishes his puzzle, rolls his ball, and hits his buzzer, becoming the Power of Veto winner (and, of course, removing himself from the block).

This is where it gets dicey. If Melody truly wants Dee to leave the house — as she's said she does, for many weeks now — she needs to make her bestie Drew the replacement nominee. If either Taylor or Yash goes up against Dee, Dee will likely stay: Devens will of course vote to keep his "Survivor" ride-or-die, and Drew's fairly unwavering loyalty to the icons will probably come through once again for Dee. Now, Taylor realizes this, and she's practically begging Melody to make Drew the replacement nominee so that Yash and Taylor can vote to send Dee packing — but Melody, frustratingly, says she won't nominate Drew and needs to nominate Yash.

To Taylor's credit, she tries to persuade Melody to nominate Drew up until the moment the veto meeting starts, but it's for naught. Melody nominates Yash. There's a commercial break, and when the show returns, it looks like Melody and Drew are having a one-on-one chat, and maybe she's convincing him to vote out Dee. But when it comes time to vote, Drew is the tiebreaker, and after a long pause... he votes to evict Yash. ("I just can't beat you, bro," Drew tells Yash on his way out the door. "You're just too good.")

On Sunday's episode, we'll get to see the conversations that were going down during this episode's commercial breaks, and presumably we'll get Melody's reasoning for putting longtime target Dee in a position to stay in the house. In the meantime, though, Taylor steals away to her bedroom and cries — pretty understandably — that her fellow players are "so f**king stupid." (Whoops! CBS' censors didn't quite catch that one.)
