Netflix's The Watcher To Start Filming Season 2, Four Years After Renewal — Who's Returning?

If you wanted to watch more of "The Watcher," you're in luck: We have a Season 2 update for you. (Finally.)

Four years after the Netflix horror thriller was renewed for Season 2, it'll start filming its sophomore run this fall in New York, TVLine has learned. Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale will return as home owners Nora and Dean Brannock, with Isabel Gravitt returning as their daughter Ellie along with Margo Martindale as neighbor Mo. Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan will return as well, with Brennan serving as showrunner.

No plot details have been released yet for the new season, but Season 1 "followed the Brannock family who moved into what was supposed to be their suburban dream home, and quickly became a living hell," according to the official synopsis. "Ominous letters from someone calling themself 'The Watcher' were just the beginning as the neighborhood's sinister secrets came spilling out."

Season 1 of "The Watcher" starred Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale as Nora and Dean Brannock, who moved their family into an idyllic suburban home only to find themselves harassed by a mysterious stalker known as "The Watcher." (Check out our premiere recap here.)

It debuted in October 2022 on Netflix, with all seven episodes dropping at once, and topped the Nielsen streaming charts in its first week with nearly 2.4 billion minutes of viewing time. Netflix renewed it for Season 2 a month later, along with executive producer Ryan Murphy's "Monster" anthology.

"Audiences can't take their eyes off 'Monster' and 'The Watcher,'" Netflix TV head Bela Bajaria said in a statement. "The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on 'Monster' along with Eric Newman on 'The Watcher' are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan's distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the 'Monster' and 'Watcher' universes."

Along with Watts, Cannavale, Isabel Gravitt, and Margo Martindale, the Season 1 cast of "The Watcher" also included Jennifer Coolidge, Richard Kind, Mia Farrow, and Christopher McDonald — but there's no word yet on whether any of them will return next season.
