THE PERFORMER | Linda Cardellini

THE SHOW | Peacock's "Crystal Lake"

THE EPISODE | "The Final Chapter" (October 15, 2026)

THE PERFORMANCE | We could've chosen any episode of "Crystal Lake" to celebrate Linda Cardellini's excellent, refined, and at times, terrifying performance, but it was the season finale of Peacock's "Friday the 13th" prequel that really had our blood pumping. The "Dead to Me" vet plays Pamela Voorhees, a mother on the run from a dark past whose child drowns and goes missing. And it's that traumatic event that triggers Mom to spiral as she slowly slips into insanity and turns into a monster.

In Episode 8, Cardellini continued to tear out our hearts and scare the bejeezus out of us in one fell swoop. The actress first showed Pam's vulnerable side early in the hour, after the character revealed the chaos she had fled. Cardellini's eyes filled with fear after sharing the story of her husband Elias' evil ways and admitting to (some of) the murders she had committed.

But things flew off the rails after Pamela was abducted by her husband, whose car was then run off the road by their supernaturally grown son. At a final showdown at a cabin in the woods (where else?), Cardellini seethed with rage at Elias, telling him that his abnormal experiments didn't help Jason, they tortured him. And that's when Elias went in for a (metaphorical) kill of his own, reminding Pam that she let their son drown... twice. (Ouch.)

When "Baghead Jason" finally appeared, Cardellini painted her face with love and tears for her "sweet, sweet boy." And after Jason crushed his father's skull with his bare hands, he had mercy on his mommy dearest, fleeing only when Ralph's gunshot fired his way. By then, all of Pamela's trauma had compounded, transforming her affection and good intentions into maniacal laughter and a broken psyche. "These woods are ours now!" she whispered with wide eyes, seemingly to no one. And with Jason's most notable murder complete, Cardellini allowed her character to finally descend into sheer madness. It was quite unsettling — shocking, even — but most of all, it was stellar to behold. — Nick Caruso

HONORABLE MENTION: Pierce Brosnan

All season long, "MobLand" has been showing us that Conrad Harrigan isn't quite the man he used to be. The distinguished crime boss has missed a step here, acted more erratic than usual there, all the while seemingly unconcerned about his empire as it crumbles beneath him. Friday's episode, though, offered a brilliant reminder of why Conrad is the head of one of England's most successful syndicates, and that reminder came in the form of a monologue passionately delivered by Pierce Brosnan. As Conrad rejected his daughter's suggestion that the Harrigans ally with someone more corporate-minded, Brosnan took us on a journey that evoked Conrad's scrappy start. The warmth in Brosnan's voice as he recalled the first time he touched wife Maeve's face, the way his cheeks wrinkled with joy as he remembered their first felony together, all of it drove home how Conrad's affection for his bonkers wife is inextricable from his business dealings — how, in fact, that relationship made him the success that he is. Brosnan made Conrad the steadiest we've seen him all season as he stood, resolute, and rejected the notion that the Harrigan family would be anything other than down-and-dirty outlaws until their last breaths. The quiet assurance stood in beautiful contrast to some of Conrad's recent tirades, showing off Brosnan's virtuosic understanding of his charismatic, chaotic alter ego. — Kimberly Roots
