Ghosts Bosses Tease Halloween Special's New Haunt And Big Season 6 Surprises — Plus, Is An Eternally Yours Crossover In The Works?
A haunted mirror is about to turn Woodstone Manor upside down.
In the "Ghosts" Halloween special (airing on CBS Thursday, October 29 at 9/8c), it's a couple months after Pete's disappearance and Kyle (new series regular Ben Feldman) is on hand to help around the house. But in pure "Ghosts" fashion, things get kooky when Jay brings home an antique mirror that unknowingly has the ghost of Hetty's estranged sister, Margaret (Maria Thayer), trapped inside.
And even though this new installment is technically a special ("Ghosts" will follow it up with a Christmas special on December 10; the series will then return for the remainder of Season 6 in 2027), viewers won't have long to wait to see our dearly beloved Pete who was last spotted fading away to nothing in Jay's backseat. Showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman confirm to TVLine that "we are going to be addressing that cliffhanger" in Thursday's special titled "Halloween 6: The Mirror." In addition, teases Wiseman, "We're going to see a new type of ghost that we've never seen before on the show."
What else is on tap for Ghosts Season 6?
With Kyle sticking around in Season 6 (and Rose McIver partially absent early in the season due to her real-life pregnancy), the showrunners tease that there's much more to come — and to learn — from Feldman's character in the new year. Plus, he's now an official employee of Sam and Jay's B&B!
"We're so excited to have Ben [full-time]," says Port. "He's a sitcom legend that you're just adding to an already stacked cast. He's such a phenomenal actor and a great guy, and he's just doing an amazing job so far. We're really excited for people to learn more about Kyle."
We also haven't seen the last of Matt Walsh's Elias Woodstone. The "Veep" vet is set to make an appearance early in the season, once again reprising Hetty's former robber baron husband, who's also now a demon from hell.
Rose Abdoo's Paula, who produces the ghosts' favorite reality show, "It's Getting Hot in Here," will also be making a return visit to Woodstone.
"An episode of that is going to be filmed at Woodstone, and It's Getting Hot in Here's 100th episode is going to be Ghosts' 100th episode as well," teases Wiseman.
Port also clues TVLine in on a "Scary Poppins episode where we meet a sadistic Mary Poppins-type ghost." Plus, fans will learn a previously unknown backstory about Flower that the showrunner promises will "really deepen her character." Season 6 will also further explore the boundary surrounding the mansion, but how or what will happen remains under wraps.
Could an Eternally Yours crossover happen?
With Port and Wiseman heading up not one, but two supernatural sitcoms on the same network, there's bound to be discussion on whether a crossover could — or should — happen.
"It's definitely something we are talking about a lot," Wiseman tells TVLine. "I think it would be really fun to do, and to the question that ghosts can't leave or most of them can't leave, but the vampires can... I think if we were to do it, it would probably be people visiting Woodstone in some capacity."
"I'm very gung-ho to do it," adds Port. "Rarely in life would this opportunity come around where you'd have these two supernatural shows on at the same time. It seems fun to do, and everyone's already in Montreal, so they just have to hop in a car."
Making things slightly tricky is the fact that some of their actors appear in both shows, but as different characters. The aforementioned Abdoo, for example, also plays Phyllis in "Eternally Yours," a human living with a vampire coven. And Allegra Edwards, who plays matriarch vamp Liz in "Eternally Yours," has also appeared in two episodes of "Ghosts" as Donna, Pete's ex-girlfriend.
"That's the thing that makes it a little difficult," says Port, "but we have ways around that to facilitate the crossover and have it make sense."
