Beyond The Gates Recasts Ted: First Look At Keith D. Robinson's Debut, Replacing Maurice Johnson

When Beyond the Gates' Nicole recently looked her cheating husband in the eye and told him that she barely recognized him anymore, she had no idea how right she would soon become.

Just over 50 episodes into its run, CBS' new daytime drama has already implemented its first major recast, introducing a new actor to play the not-so-upstanding Dr. Ted Richardson.

Previously portrayed by Maurice Johnson, the series-regular role is now being played by Keith D. Robinson, who makes his Beyond the Gates debut on Thursday, May 15.

The change comes at a time of great upheaval for Ted, whose decades-old affair with Leslie (and subsequent birth of their daughter, Eva) was recently revealed in spectacular fashion. He went from being a pillar of the community to being Fairmont Crest's newest pariah overnight.

Johnson's final appearance as Ted came on Tuesday, May 13, when he vowed to win back Nicole while also becoming the father that Eva has always deserved. Will he keep those promises? We'll find out in time, as Beyond the Gates has been renewed for a second season — but however Ted's story plays out, Johnson won't be around to see it happen. (CBS did not give an official reason for Johnson's departure.)

Robinson's past TV credits include recurring roles on ER, American Dreams, Half & Half, Monk and A Million Little Things, among dozens of roles.

New episodes of Beyond the Gates air weekdays at 2/1c on CBS and are available to stream next-day on Paramount+.
