Emmys 2025: Comedian Nate Bargatze Set To Host CBS' September Telecast

CBS has tapped a real stand-up guy to lord over this year's Emmys.

Comedian Nate Bargatze is set to host the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, which CBS will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 14, starting at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

The awards ceremony will also stream live and on demand for Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers, and next-day for Paramount+ Essential subscribers.

A Grammy Award-nominated comedian, author, podcaster, actor, director and producer, Bargatze hosted Saturday Night Live for a second time last fall, and in 2024 set a record for the biggest one-year gross by a comedy performer. He is currently on his Big Dumb Eyes World Tour.

He also co-produced a holiday variety special, Nate Bargatze's Nashville Christmas (which aired in December on CBS), and soon will star in the family-friendly feature film comedy The Breadwinner.

"It's a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show," Bargatze said in a statement, "and I'm beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world."

"Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe," said Television Academy chair Cris Abrego. "We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year's Emmy telecast."

Last September's Emmys telecast on ABC delivered 6.87 million total viewers, marking a three-year high for the annual awards show (and a 54% improvement on the all-time low delivered by January 2024's Hollywood strikes-delayed ceremony). Hosted by the father-son team of Eugene and Dan Levy, that Emmys broadcast earned an average TVLine reader grade of "C+" (read our own review here).
