Netflix's Little House On The Prairie Reboot Casts Its Ingalls Family — Get Details On Laura, Mary, Charles And Caroline

TV's new Little House on the Prairie filled up fast.

Three months after Netflix's adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's iconic semi-autobiographical books was announced, the roles of Laura, Mary, Charles and Caroline Ingalls all have been filled.

Alice Halsey, whose previous TV credits include playing daughter to Brie Larson in Apple TV+'s Lessons in Chemistry, will play wee Laura; Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett) will fill the role of older sister Mary; and Luke Bracey (the Aussie star of 2015's Point Break remake) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) will play Charles and his wife Caroline.

Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, the late Michael Landon and Karen Grassle populated the original Little House in the NBC series that bowed March 1974, had a nine-season run and spawned a trio of made-for-TV movies.

Described as "part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West," Netflix's "fresh" take on Wilder's Little House books promises "a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier."

The adventures of the Ingalls family are seen through the eyes of young Laura.

"Everyone sees themselves in Laura. That's why these books endure," says the official description of Halsey's character. "Laura is a disruptor. Honest to a fault. Questions authority. She's our window into this adventure. An American icon in waiting."

Mary in turn is described as "Laura's older sister and polar opposite. A rule follower. Quiet and studious. Always angling to be the good daughter, the obedient one, the ladylike one, the prettier one."

Family patriarch Charles is "a man who'd fit in seamlessly into the 21st century. Ruggedly handsome, charming, outgoing. A farmer and a trapper. A carpenter and an artist. A poet, a musician, a skilled storyteller. The original Girl Dad." Caroline, meanwhile, has "a playful side, a romantic side — but at the end of the day, she's the one who keeps this family on track. Like moms do. She's quiet and patient and practical — but with a core of steel."

Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Vampire Diaries, The Boys) serves as showrunner on the CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studio co-prouction and will executive-produce alongside Trip Friendly (son of original series EP Ed Friendly), Joy Gorman Wettels, Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel. Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons in Chemistry, Hanna) is set to direct the first episode.
