Marcia Gay Harden Joins Murder In A Small Town Season 2, Will 'Complicate' Things As Mayor
The small town that is home to more than a murder or two now has a mayor.
Four-time Emmy nominee Marcia Gay Harden, most recently of CBS' So Help Me Todd, has boarded Season 2 of Fox's Murder in a Small Town in the series regular role of Mayor Christie Holman, our sister site Variety reports.
Holman is described as "a beloved figure in the community," "a consummate political operator" and "a practicing doctor and has the best interests of the people of Gibsons, British Columbia at heart," though "sometimes she lets her personal interests take precedence."
Madam Mayor will "complicate life" for Chief of Police Karl Alberg (played by Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) "as she uses the competing priorities of the community to advance her own agenda," says Variety.
Based on the award-winning Karl Alberg series by novelist L.R. Wright, Murder in a Small Town Sason 1 followed Sutherland's Karl as he moved to the quiet, coastal town of Gibsons to soothe a psyche that had been battered by big-city police work. There, he quickly learned that this gentle paradise harbored secrets that would call upon the skills that made him a world-class detective. Kreuk's Cassandra Lee is a local librarian who became Karl's muse, foil and romantic interest.
Murder in a Small Town premiered in September 2024, earning an average reader grade of "B+," and concluded its eight-episode run in November. Averaging 3.15 million total viewers (with delayed playback), it was Fox's fifth-most watched non-sports program of the fall. Renewal came early, in January of this year.
In addition to her two-season run as Todd's mom Margaret, Harden's TV credits includes The Morning Show (for which she earned a pair of Emmy nods in the guest actress category), Barkskins, Code Black, The Newsroom, Trophy Wife, Damages and The Education of Max Bickford.
Besides her four total Emmy Award nominations, Harden is an Oscar winner, for 2000's Pollack.
