Shrinking Adds Jeff Daniels As Jimmy's Dad In Season 3
We're about to find out where roughly half of Jimmy's neuroses come from.
Emmy winner Jeff Daniels is joining Shrinking's Season 3 cast, TVLine has confirmed. He will play Jimmy's dad in a guest arc. Our sister site Deadline first reported the casting.
Daniels has taken home two Primetime Emmys: One in 2013 for playing cable news anchor Will McAvoy in HBO's The Newsroom, and the other in 2018 for playing outlaw Frank Griffin in the Netflix western Godless. His TV work also includes A Man in Full, American Rust, The Comey Rule andThe Looming Tower. Prior to leading The Newsroom, Daniels was known primarily for his film resumé, which includes Dumb and Dumber, Speed, Goodnight and Good Luck, Because of Winn-Dixie and Arachnophobia.
After Shrinking's Season 2 finale in December, series co-creator/writer/director Bill Lawrence told TVLine's Nick Caruso that Season 3 was going to focus on how Jimmy and his friends are moving on with their lives. Lawrence added that he and the writers, at the time, had already produced about half of the third season's scripts.
Shrinking was renewed for Season 3 in November. Despite the show's original pitch of just three seasons, Lawrence told TVLine, "If we're lucky enough and Apple seems excited to keep making the show, we'll come up with a new story."
