The Night Agent Season 3 Has Wrapped Filming: Everything We Know About Casting, Storyline
Season 2 of The Night Agent is barely in the rear view mirror, but already we know plenty about the Netflix hit's third season, which was greenlit back in October 2024 and recently wrapped filming.
"New York, Washington, D.C., Turkey, Mexico, Dominican Republic... We hit them all," showrunner Shawn Ryan shared on social media July 14. "Season 3 of #TheNightAgent has officially wrapped production."
Season 1 of The Night Agent earned a rare average TVLine reader grade of "A+," while Season 2 scored a "B-." How is Season 3 looking? Here is everything we know so far....
What Is Season 3 About?
Based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, Season 1 of The Night Agent (released March 3, 2023) followed Peter Sutherland (played by Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI Agent who worked in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rang — until it did. That call, from panicked cybersecurity expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), propelled the two into a conspiracy that ultimately led all the way to the Oval Office. All the while, the heroic couple was dogged by not just a team of lovebird assassins, but an inscrutable bunch of White House bigwigs.
Season 2 (released Jan. 23. 2025) was set in motion by the hunt for a mole who betrayed Peter during a Night Action mission and nearly got him killed, forcing him to go AWOL on his handler, Catherine Weaver (played by East New York's Amanda Warren). Ultimately, Peter, Rose, Catherine and others worked to stop the release of a biological weapon inside the United Nations in New York City.
Based on how Season 2 ended (SPOILER ALERT!), Season 3 will find Peter essentially working as a double agent, doing the bidding of Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum) while also reporting back to the FBI on the knowledge broker's every move as a crony of the likely next President of the United States, Governor Richard Hagan (Ward Horton). "Gain trust, expose, destroy" are Peter's marching orders from Catherine.
Who Is Returning for Season 3?
Gabriel Basso will of course be back as Peter, while Luciane Buchanan's status as Rose is officially a question mark thus far. After all, in the Season 2 finale, Peter did ask Rose to promise to not expect his call, to "never come looking for me, and just forget about me." Rose, when last seen, was back at her job in California, seeking a "normal life." In interviews, showrunner Shawn Ryan has been non-committal about Buchanan's return, while Basso, when asked by TVLine, hedged, "I don't know! It's above my pay grade."
Amanda Warren's return as Catherine seems like a safe bet, though there has been no official word on her either.
Meanwhile on the promotions front, Ward Horton, Fola Evans-Akingbola and Albert Jones all will be series regulars for Season 3, as Hagan, Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington and FBI deputy director Aiden Mosley.
Who Is New for Season 3?
Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), Stephen Moyer (True Blood), David Lyons (Revolution), Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness) and child actor Callum Vinson (Chucky) boarded The Night Agent's Season 3 cast. Additionally, Suraj Sharma (How I Met Your Father) booked a recurring role on the Sony Pictures Television production.
Details on almost all of the above roles are being kept under wraps, though Morrison has touted on socials that she will be playing the new First Lady, aka Hagan's wife. TVLine hears that Morrison's character is a successful philanthropist, loving mother and savvy political operator, and one whose charm no one is immune to.
Meanwhile, it would appear that Rodriguez is playing a financial reporter from a respected New York City newspaper who finds herself chasing a potentially explosive story — though her exact role has not been confirmed.
Does Season 3 Have a Release Date?
Production on Season 3 of The Night Agent got underway in Istanbul in late 2024, and wrapped in July. No Season 3 release timetable has been officially announced, though it seems possible that we might get another January (2026) premiere.
Will There Be a Season 4 of The Night Agent?
It's certainly possible. The Night Agent famously scored its Season 2 pick-up just six days after debuting to boffo numbers, while Season 3 was greenlit nearly four months ahead of Season 2's strikes-delayed release.
The action-thriller also continues to put up big numbers. Out of the gate, Season 2 debuted at No. 1 on Netflix's Top 10 English-language TV list (with 13.9 million views in just its first few days of release). The Night Agent also quickly returned to Netflix's Top 10 charts — in 90 countries.
Officially, though, Netflix has yet to order Season 4.
