Game Of Thrones Cast Reacts To Big Melisandre Reveal

Maisie Williams (Arya) "I know it's a massive story point and a lot of people are going to be very, very confused by it... but honestly, all I kept thinking was, 'Whoa, I wonder how long Carice had to sit in hair and makeup.' [Laughs] I was also thinking, 'Oh, that looks incredible. Emmys, Emmys everywhere!'"

Iwan Rheon (Ramsay) "I thought it was shot immensely well. I knew what was coming, but it still shocked me. That's something that Game of Thrones does fantastically well, even with things like the Red Wedding. You know it's coming but when it happens it's still horrible."

Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran) "It's a literal metaphor for all the dark twisted stuff beneath her. What I really like about her is that she's one of the religious people who delivers. She's not just talking about a load of magic that doesn't actually happen. She's the real deal."

Sophie Turner (Sansa) "The prosthetics were amazing. And it just throws you off. It's like, 'What is this story about?' Because you have no idea what this means for her. It's kind of awesome because it's this whole new vulnerable side of her. And you feel sad for her."

Alfie Allen (Theon) "It was beautiful. I wanted to see more. I'm very excited to see the rest of it."

Hannah Murray (Gilly) "I didn't read it in the script so I didn't know it was going to happen. So it was a real moment. You could've heard a pin drop [in the theater at the Hollywood premiere]. I think it was one of the best things [the show] has ever done. And it's only the first episode."

John Bradley (Sam) "There have been people at several points in the series who have called her a fraud and said that she's a Charlotte. And that when push comes to shove she lets people down and can't do what she promises. But this legitimizes her. It opens up the potential for her to have an impact on things in the future. It supports everything she's always said about herself."

Michael McElhatton (Roose) "It was a brilliant moment. You see another facet of that character that you've never seen before. You see a vulnerability."

Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen) "I was really surprised by how touching the moment was, because you have this character you didn't really like and then all of a sudden she turns into this old woman; there's something so human and touching about it. Your entire perception of the character changed in that one moment. It's magical. It's also this moment of weakness."

Liam Cunningham (Davos) "Carice is a good friend of mine. We sit around [on the set] and speculate when we're twiddling our thumbs waiting for the next camera setup. And a couple of seasons ago she mentioned to me that the theory was that Melisandre was an old, old, old woman. And then [at the start of Season 6] she told me that they were bringing her in to do a head cast for a prosthetic. And then she showed me the photograph and I went f—k. It just looked so cool... It completely flips your perceptions about who this Red Woman was. We've just been shown what the real woman is. You can never look at her again the same way. She's a different character. It's mad."
