Sofia Coppola's 'Very Murray Christmas'
A Very Murray Christmas
"At one point It was a Valentine's special, and then it turned into a holiday special."
A Very Murray Christmas
"When [Murray] walked in and he's all perfectly groomed in his tuxedo, I was just like, 'That's the version of Bill that I love to see.' It's fun to have a reason where I get to have my fantasy Bill version."
A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS
"I feel so lucky that we got to work with all these great people that I admire... Chris Rock and really everyone who signed up were up for being a part of Bill's show."
A Very Murray Christmas
"I always love Maya Rudolph, and I knew she could sing, but not like that."
A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS
"Getting Phoenix [whose lead singer is Coppola's husband, Thomas Mars] to be chefs took a little persuading, but then they were good sports about it." [Laughs]
A Very Murray Christmas
"We wanted a cute pop star element to be the cute elf that came off the sled, and we were talking about different people. I had met [Miley Cyrus] once before. I knew [fashion designer] Marc Jacobs knew her, so I asked for a contact, but I saw her on SNL singing live, and I was really impressed by her... I was really impressed with her when she showed up and was so hard working and just game and so pro... I think people were surprised because she has such a kind of outrageous persona."
A Very Murray Christmas
George Clooney's lines were "pretty improv'd, and he was a good sport. He even showed up in his tux looking like that. [Laughs] He was the most low-maintenance of all, I think. He showed up in his tux and he was really nice about whatever we needed, but that 'Santa Claus Needs Loving' number, that was supposed to be [rapper] Rick Ross and he didn't make it. So Bill jumped in and put the Rick Ross Santa cape on and sang it and asked George to do the backup, and he did it. I think Bill can inspire anyone to go along with the ride. It was fun to see that come together, and it was a little sloppy, but hopefully there's a homemade quality [to it]."
A Very Murray Christmas
"I was really impressed with Miley's 'Silent Night,' which was thrown together at the last minute. We thought we needed another song, and I asked if she would do a song and her and Paul [Shaffer], just over lunch, came up with that. That was really impressive to hear her sing live."
A Very Murray Christmas
"We had a rehearsal day with just the cameras [for the dream sequence], because we were shooting multi-cameras, which I've never done before. Luckily, my brother, Roman, has live TV experience, so he was really our hero with programming all those cameras... Then, I'd never worked with a choreographer before, but having all these people that were talented, they could just come up with this all very spur-of-the-moment, and then Paul got the band together. So it was just getting a great group together that knew how to put on a show."
