Klaus' Relationships: Joseph Morgan Investigates

CAROLINE

"I was very tentative at first," Morgan says of diving back into the Klaus/Caroline waters. "That 'ship has an extremely strong fan base, so we felt that to not address it would be treating it like an elephant in the room. Like, there's a crossover and all of this happens, but she's never mentioned? It would have been silly to do that. You have to do justice and pay tribute to the relationships that exist in each of our shows. It's a fine balance which, luckily, I wasn't responsible for."

CAROLINE, Cont'd.

Morgan continues, "I was nervous about how [Klaus and Caroline's interaction] would be handled for both of those reasons, and I have to tell you, I barely changed a word of the script that I got. I thought it was handled so beautifully by the writers, and I especially liked the reference to the children. I thought that was a lovely thing to reference. I was very happy with it. I know some people were and some people weren't, but for me, I think it was handled extremely well."

HAYLEY

"It's baby steps, but they're making some progress," Morgan says of Klaus and the mother of his child. "He does respect her, even if he probably wouldn't admit that. She's part of his family, and that's huge for Klaus, because family is everything — even though he's constantly betraying and daggering his family members. Freya and Hayley have both been accepted into the circle, and that's the way it should be."

CAMI

"Cami is someone who understands the darkness in Klaus and tries to see the best in him and helps him find the best in himself," Morgan says of Leah Pipes' character, who recently cut ties with Klaus (even if she didn't really mean to). "He is, no doubt, a better person and a better father to Hope because of Cami."

AURORA

"Aurora is inarguably crazy, and part of that definitely appeals to Klaus," Morgan admits with a laugh. "He has this dark, malignant side, and here's a woman who satisfies that."

AURORA v. CAMI

"If Klaus does get to be in a room with both of those girls, it'll be difficult, because he certainly has strong feelings for both of them," Morgan says in response to Michael Narducci's recent comments about an Aurora/Cami showdown being inevitable. "He seems incapable of making a decision about it. Perhaps deep down he realizes he doesn't deserve to be with either of them, or with anyone."

HOPE

"I hope the woman that he will do right by is Hope," Morgan concludes. "That's my hope."
