Gen V EP Explains How Chance Perdomo's Death Was Written Into Season 2: 'We Wanted To Honor Him'

After nearly two full calendar years, Gen V has returned to Prime Video for Season 2, opening with a bittersweet message: "For Chance."

It's a simple but effective tribute to Chance Perdomo, who died in March 2024 of injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. When we last saw Perdomo's character in the Season 1 finale, Andre was being taken to Elmira along with several of his fellow Supes, but in the Season 2 premiere, the first of three episodes now available to stream, we learn that Andre has died.

"We wanted to honor him, and in order to honor the person that Chance was, we have to treat this like what it is, which is grieving someone who is gone," showrunner Michele Fazekas tells TVLine. "But knowing that you're doing a television show about superheroes at college, how do you fit that very real, very serious emotion into the world of this show? The answer is that you just fit it into the world of the show, like people fit grief into their lives. Sometimes people are inappropriate, sometimes people are cracking jokes and sometimes people are angry."

That anger is on full display when Jordan and Emma relay the news of Andre's fate to Cate, who turns to Godolkin's new leader for answers. Unfortunately, Dean Cipher isn't exactly open to discussions, instead threatening to cut off Cate's arm (again?!) if she keeps pushing the question. In fact, it isn't until the very end of the hour that Jordan finally tells Marie, who remains on the run from Vought's fleet of mercenaries, exactly how Andre lost his life.

"After you escaped, he said you were proof there was a way out," Jordan tells Marie, explaining that Andre found a narrow maintenance pipe but refused to leave until everyone else had a chance. "When he took us, someone had walled the pipe off with brick and he couldn't pull it open ... so he tried to rip open a huge steel door instead," Jordan recalls. "It wouldn't move. His powers weren't strong enough, and I begged him to stop. I begged him. But he's so stubborn. He kept trying, and he struck the f–k out and he dropped and he died."

As Marie processes the news, her devastation is palpable, made even more so by the real-life emotions behind Jaz Sinclair's performance. "We really did try, in a show about superheroes at college, to make [this loss] as real as possible," Fazekas says. "I think it really worked, and I think the actors are so good at it. Lizze [Broadway] and Jaz, they all really sort of showed a piece of themselves in the show."

Talk of Andre's tragic sacrifice is soon eclipsed, however, when Cate attempts to force Marie back to Godolkin. Jordan blasts her out of the way, causing a severe head injury in the process. Knowing that making physical contact with Cate would put them in more danger, Jordan, Marie and Emma agree to flee the scene, leaving Cate for dead. #karma
