High Potential's Daniel Sunjata Reacts To Morgan And Karadec's 'Mutual Revelation' In Midseason Premiere

Warning: This interview includes mild spoilers from Tuesday's High Potential. If you haven't watched yet, you might want to make like Roman... and disappear.

When TVLine last spoke with High Potential showrunner Todd Harthan, he teased a moment between Morgan and Karadec in the midseason premiere that would make people say, "I'm rooting for these two, whether it's a romantic interest or not."

Now that the episode has aired, we know that Harthan was referring to the morning after Morgan and Karadec's long, takeout-fueled night of reviewing a case at his apartment (where she showed up unannounced and uninvited). But don't mistake their all-nighter for anything romantic. In fact, it ended with Karadec encouraging Morgan to explore her feelings for Tom after revealing a secret from his own dating history — he was once engaged!

"It was a moment of mutual revelation," Daniel Sunjata (Karadec) tells TVLine. "Because Morgan shared something about her new potential love interest, Adam decided to reciprocate with a bit of personal disclosure as well. It's a moment of evolution in their working relationship and personal relationship. It's a type of moment that we haven't seen up to this point, and hopefully it will be memorable to the audience."

According to Karadec, his ex-fiancée left him because he'll always be more committed to his job than he could be to any relationship, a personality flaw that Sunjata "would like to see him struggle with" moving forward. On the romance front, he's also fully aware about the fandom's desire for Karadec and Morgan to get together, to which he stresses patience.

"We're in incredibly good hands with Kaitlin [Olson] as an executive producer, Todd Harthan as our showrunner and Drew Goddard as the creator," Sunjata says. "These people know exactly what they're doing, and I would be shocked if they rushed to any conclusion. Once you go there, it's hard to come back, you know what I mean?"

And it sounds like there will be plenty of time for High Potential to play out Morgan and Karadec's slow-burn romance: "We would all be shocked if we don't get [a second season] at this point," Sunjata says. "The numbers have been so good, the performance of the show has been so good, and the response has been so warm. We've been so warmly received by the audience we're cultivating."
