AGT: All-Stars Week 3: Did The Wrong Act Get Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer?

Simon Cowell is partially responsible for giving us Kelly Clarkson, so we're legally obligated to give him the benefit of the doubt. Still, we can't help but question a decision he just made in Episode 3 of AGT: All-Stars.

Spoiler alert: The lucky recipient of Cowell's proceed-straight-to-the-finals Golden Buzzer was comedian Mike E. Winfield, a finalist from America's Got Talent Season 17. Was he funny? Absolutely. But was he Golden Buzzer funny? Cowell certainly thought so, but we're not sure we share in his enthusiasm. The judges appeared far more impressed and amused — even occasionally dumbfounded — by multiple other acts who performed this week.

(Could the fact that Winfield is currently hosting AGT Presents Superstars live stage show at Las Vegas' Luxor have anything to do with Cowell's decision? That's for you to judge.)

Read on to see how the other nine acts fared this week, including which one received the most votes from those pesky superfans. When you're done reliving the auditions, drop a comment with your thoughts. Which act would have gotten your Golden Buzzer?

SAFE (GOLDEN BUZZER WINNER): Mike E. Winfield

The judges were pumped to see this stand-up comedian from Season 17 back on stage, and they were not disappointed by his routine about life after AGT, including how fame has gone to his stepson — er, step-man's — head.

ELIMINATED: Bir Khalsa

Would fourth time be the charm for this danger group that previously competed on three other Got Talent shows? That was certainly the hope as the foursome squeezed their heads between beds of nails, poured salt in each other's eyes and cut pieces of fruit over one another's throats. Crews already said it, but we'll echo it just for good measure: Do not try this at home!

ELIMINATED: Captain Ruin

This punk-rock daredevil from Australia's Got Talent still felt he had something to prove, which he did in the form a knife-throwing challenge that could have potentially dropped a piano on his head. Given that he is in fact a human being and not at all a cartoon character, you can imagine the risk here. He gets extra points for throwing in those troubling one-liners like, "Is anyone dizzy or is it just me?"

ELIMINATED: Dance Town Family

This Florida-based group has done quite well for itself since placing in the AGT Season 15 semifinals — including dancing alongside Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl — but because "nothing beats the AGT stage," they returned for another high-energy performance.

ELIMINATED: Dustin's Dojo

Testing the very definition of the word "all-star," this Indiana-based comedy karate group (it's a thing!) was a waste of everyone's time, quite frankly. Terry Crews did his best to hype up the audience, but this was just dumb — and it absolutely deserved the X's it received from Klum and Simon Cowell. "I still don't get it," Klum said, to which Cowell added, "It wasn't karate, it was ca-rappy."

ELIMINATED: Keiichi Iwasaki

Personally, I would have given my Golden Buzzer to this magician from Britain's Got Talent Season 15, who came to All-Stars with a simple dream: to row a boat across the Atlantic Ocean. Win the show, buy the boat, row the boat. Simple.

His infectious energy and curious antics left the judges speechless, especially when he appeared to buzz himself out, only to steal the light from the "X" and incorporate it into his act. Never mind the actual magic he used to float a ring onto Klum's finger — while blindfolded, no less.

ELIMINATED: Viviana Rossi

An injury forced this Barcelona native out of the competition during AGT Season 17, but she came back stronger than ever for All-Stars, making Heidi Klum even more nervous with another dizzying, death-defying routine.

ELIMINATED (THIRD PLACE): Keren Montero

Winning Dominicana's Got Talent Season 2 was just the beginning for this young singer, who now got a chance to impress the world with an emotional performance of Lauren Daigle's "Rescue."

And she did win over the superfans, at least enough to finish the episode in third place.

ELIMINATED (RUNNER-UP): Peter Antoniou

This memorable mentalist from AGT Season 16 once again boggled the judges' minds — especially participant Howie Mandel — with a library-themed trick that found him drinking and spilling tea. (Also, congratulations in advance, Alex!)

Antoniou was also able to work his magic on the superfans, relatively speaking, finishing the episode as this week's runner-up.

SAFE (SUPERFAN VOTE WINNER): Avery Dixon

Dixon, the first act of AGT Season 17 to score a Golden Buzzer, returned with his saxophone for a performance of Pharrell's "Happy" that got everyone in the auditorium out of their seats.

He was also music to the superfans' ears, earning the most votes and sailing through to the next round.
