Days Of Our Lives' Final NBC Episode Interrupted By King Charles' Speech — Here's What You Missed
A father and son at each other's throats, a proposal with questionable motives, and the dramatic return of a resurrected lover? On the surface, Friday felt like just another day in Salem — but make no mistake, this was the end of an era.
You wouldn't know it if you breezed through the commercials, but this was Days of Our Lives' final episode on NBC, bringing an end to its historic 57-year run on the network. Beginning Monday, Sept. 12, new episodes will exclusively stream on Peacock. (Not a subscriber? Click here for specific instructions on how to watch.)
Ironically, the end of the show's east coast broadcast was interrupted NBC's coverage of King Charles III's first official address after the death of Queen Elizabeth II — an all-too-common occurrence that fans will no longer have to worry about when the show moves to Peacock.
Read on to find out how some of Salem's most notorious residents wrapped their run on NBC, then drop a comment with your thoughts below. Will you be following Days to Peacock?
Let's begin with Ava and Stefan's encounter in the crypt, shall we?
"You're not real," she said, even after he touched her. "You're not Jake." (Well, at least she was only half wrong there.)
Starting to believe that she might actually be losing her mind, Ava hurried back to the main house, where Johnny volunteered to escort her back into the crypt. Even though Stefan was nowhere to be seen, Johnny reminded Ava that the DiMeras have a long history of coming back from the dead — though he failed to mention the time André was briefly resurrected by the actual Devil. (Seriously, why would anyone in this town doubt someone's return?)
Days has always enjoyed a good family feud, especially when that family's name is DiMera. And when it comes to Johnny and EJ, there's no topic touchier than Ava Vitali — sorry, Ava "DiMera."
"She is an amoral woman, she was brought up to have no conscience," EJ told his son, but Johnny wouldn't hear any of it, asking, "Is that what you tell yourself to justify your little campaign against her?"
But why, exactly, is Johnny so protective of her? Tony chalked it up to a sense of chivalry, but his wife knows better. "Chivalry has nothing to do with it," Anna clarified. "Johnny has a crush on Ava!" More to the point, she sees absolutely nothing wrong with that. "If Johnny is interested in Ava, good for him!" she said.
Anna's theory only gained more steam as Johnny literally begged Ava not to move out of the mansion. And it was solidified at the end of the hour... when they kissed. (Ow, ow!)
With the threat of Stefan's impending return racing through his beautiful-but-empty head, Li pushed Gabi to accept his proposal, which left her totally speechless — and not for any of the right reasons.
But that stone-faced glare eventually wore her down. Gabi admitted that, while no one will ever fully take Stefan's place in her heart, she would be "honored" to become Mrs. Li Shin.
While Anna was quick to celebrate the couple's big news, Tony refused to see it as anything other than a "strategic merger." Shocker: EJ agrees with him.
Meanwhile, Kristen crashed Brady and Chloe's party for two at the Salem Inn, expecting to find Stefan at the door. When she didn't, she conjured up the world's worst cover-up story, claiming that she was expecting to find Chloe cheating on Brady with — wait for it — Randy, a new intern at Basic Black.
The couple saw right through Kristen's half-baked story, but as we all know, the devious DiMera doesn't like to leave quietly. She made sure to remind Chloe that she used to be a "cheating whore" before reminding Brady about their upcoming custody hearing.
Hurricane Kristen then blew over to Rolf's lab, where she not-so-casually threatened his life. Then again, she didn't call him a cheating whore, so he actually got off easy.
Naturally, Days saved its biggest bombshell for last: Though east coast viewers didn't get to savor the long-awaited moment, the episode ended with Gabi and Stefan reuniting in the DiMera crypt.
But what will happen next? You'll have to subscribe to Peacock to find out. (Again, click here for basic instructions.) We'll see you there.
