Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel And She-Hulk: Disney+ Releases First Looks At New MCU Shows Coming In 2022
As Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to roll out, Disney+ is introducing a new trio of superheroes for your streaming pleasure.
A new sizzle reel released on Friday offers our first look at three new MCU series: Moon Knight, a miniseries led by Oscar Isaac; Ms. Marvel, which introduces Iman Vellani as the titular heroine; and She-Hulk, starring Tatiana Maslany as Bruce Banner's cousin. (Click here to watch the footage from all three shows, which begins at the 12:00 mark.)
These updates were shared as part of Disney+ Day, which marks the second anniversary of the streaming platform. (For a complete roundup of Friday's announcements, click here.)
Read on for complete breakdowns of what to expect from each Disney+ series, including what the new footage revealed about them.
MOON KNIGHT
What It's About: Billionaire Marc Spector, a former CIA agent and mercenary, is saved from certain death by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu and given superhuman abilities.
Cast: Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector (Moon Knight), along with May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke in undisclosed roles.
What First Footage Reveals: Isaac's Marc Spector is clearly just getting wind of his DID (dissociative identity disorder), looking quite tortured while saying, "I can't tell the difference between my waking life and dreams." Meanwhile, another, more ominous voice seems to be warning him, "The voice in your head... it devours you."
Premiere Date: Sometime in 2022
MS. MARVEL
What It's About: Kamala, a 16-year-old Pakistani American who hails from Jersey City, N.J., becomes the newest incarnation of this iconic Marvel superhero.
Cast: Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Aramis Knight as Kareem (Red Dagger), Saagar Shaikh as Amir Khan, Rish Shah as Kamran, Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan.
What First Footage Reveals: "It's not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world," Kamala sadly suggests in the teaser, to which a good friend replies, "Maybe now they do." (Spoiler alert: They totally do!) That said, Kamala is going to need work on her parkour skills — not to mention that rough costume.
Premiere Date: Sometime in 2022
SHE-HULK
What It's About: She-Hulk follows Jennifer Walters, a savvy lawyer and the cousin of Bruce Banner (better known as the Incredible Hulk). When Bruce performs an emergency blood transfusion on Jennifer after she suffers a life-threatening injury, she obtains some of his powers — but Jennifer doesn't experience quite the same rage issues as her cousin does, allowing her to keep her job despite her transformation.
Cast: Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk), Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky (Abomination), Renée Elise Goldsberry as Amelia, Jameela Jamil as Titania and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (Hulk). Ginger Gonzaga, Anais Almonte and Josh Segarra have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
What First Footage Reveals: Jennifer is a fun-loving, yoga-practicing legal eagle who really needs to work on her delivery of "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." But hey, that's what big, green mentors are for.
