Our Flag Means Death Releases Season 2 Photos Ahead Of October Return
Nearly a year-and-a-half since Our Flag Means Death Season 1 came to a close, fans have their first look (several of 'em, in fact) at the Max pirate comedy's sophomore run.
Season 1 of Our Flag Means Death streamed March 3 through March 24, 2022; two months later, Season 2 was greenlit, and filming wrapped last December. Yet while Our Flag Means Death was featured on HBO/Max's "Summer 2023" sizzle reel, series creator David Jenkins recently said to expect an "October" release, which Max has since double-secret officially confirmed.
Hailing from showrunner Jenkins, executive producer/star Taika Waititi and executive producer Garrett Basch, Season 1 of Our Flag Means Death was (very) loosely based on the true adventures of 18th century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby. After trading in the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede's fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (played by Waititi). And to their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas... they found love.
Season 2 opens with Stede and Blackbeard "ruefully separated" after finally realizing said feelings, a Vanity Fair profile recently reported.
New cast members glimpsed below include Minnie Driver (The Riches) and Ruibo Qian (Mozart in the Jungle).
Check out the first treasure trove of Season 2 photos below, and share your escalated anticipation for Our Flag's October return (exact date TBA).
