The Office Spinoff: Original Cast Member Set To Reprise Role On Peacock Comedy
At least one member of the Dunder-Mifflin gang will resurface on Peacock's upcoming comedy that is set in the world of The Office.
Though it was intended to be a surprise kept until the offshoot's premiere, sources confirm for TVLine that which was spoiled by the Insneider newsletter: Office vet Oscar Nuñez will reprise his role as Dunder-Mifflin vet Oscar Martinez.
Given that this Peacock series, rumored to be titled The Paper, is set in the same universe as The Office, there was always a chance that characters from the hit NBC comedy would appear. Plus, Greg Daniels — who adapted the UK's The Office for the U.S., and co-created The Paper with Michael Koman (Nathan for You) – has mentioned in the past that Oscar was always a character he'd like to explore further.
Sources stress, though, that the new comedy remains an ensemble series. It is not centered around Oscar (or any one character); instead, he is one of several characters in the show, and he was always involved from the start.
Peacock back in May 2024 ordered to series the new, mockumentary-style comedy, in which the intrepid, tireless documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper, and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
"It's been more than 10 years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," Lisa Katz, NBCU Entertainment's scripted content chief, said in May. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."
Who else will populate The Paper? Well...
As previously reported, Domhnall Gleeson (Alice & Jack) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), seen above, will head up the ensemble cast.
The series' cast also includes comedian Alex Edelman (who, in September, won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, for his HBO comedy special Alex Edelman: Just for Us), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League Of Their Own), Tim Key (The Witchfinder) and relative newcomer Eric Rahill.
Edelman, Ikumelo and Rahill will also serve as writers on the comedy.
Other cast members include Melvin Gregg (Snowfall), Chelsea Frei (The Cleaning Lady) and Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever).
The new series will be executive-produced by co-creators Daniels and Koman along with UK Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, plus Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (fka Reveille).
