CBS' After Midnight Cancelled After 2 Seasons
After Midnight is being put to bed.
CBS' Taylor Tomlinson-hosted late-night entry is ending after two seasons, and will last air in June.
After Midnight had previously been picked up for a third season, but Tomlinson has chosen to focus on her stand-up comedy career/touring. CBS has no plans to program the 12:30 am ET time slot after the series wraps.
Inspired by Comedy Central's @midnight (which ran from 2013 to 2017 and similarly featured special guests coming up with funny responses to online memes and trending topics), After Midnight debuted Jan. 16, 2024 at 12:37 am ET, following broadcasts of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
"Hosting After Midnight has genuinely been the experience of a lifetime, and I'll be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey," Tomlinson said in a statement. "Though it was an extremely tough decision, I knew I had to return to my first passion and return to stand-up touring full-time.
"I appreciate CBS, [executive producer] Stephen Colbert, the producers, and the entire After Midnight staff and crew for all the love, support, and unforgettable memories," she added.
Said Colbert in his own statement, "I want to thank CBS for their constant support and invaluable partnership on After Midnight, and the whole staff for their amazing dedication. While we were excited and grateful for our third season to start in the fall, we respect Taylor's decision to return to stand-up full time."
Tomlinson was a finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing before rising to fame with her first Netflix stand-up special, Quarter-Life Crisis, which debuted in 2020. She followed that up with a second Netflix special, Look at You, which released in 2022. Tomlinson has also made appearances on The Tonight Show and boasts a considerable following on TikTok.
Filling the void left by The Late Late Show With James Corden, After Midnight at its outset was described as "the smartest show on television about the dumbest things on the Internet." Each night, Tomlinson and a panel of TBD guests unpack "what set the Internet abuzz that day, with a game show feel."
