Cruel Summer Eyeing Season 3 Return To Freeform And Hulu, With Olivia Holt Back As Kate Wallis

Jeanette Turner is going to rot in hell when she reads this news: Despite its purported cancellation back in 2023, Cruel Summer is reportedly plotting its return to Freeform for a third season, with Olivia Holt set to reprise her role as Kate Wallis.

Holt would also executive-produce the third season alongside Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, Variety reports, with fellow EPs Cori Uchida and Adam Lash serving as showrunners.

Holt confirmed the news herself on social media, saying, "Kate Wallis, it's good to be you again."

The first season of Cruel Summer (2021) took place between 1993 and 1995, telling the twisted tale of two girls — Kate (Holt), a popular girl whose life is destroyed following a year-long abduction, and Jeanette (Chiara Aurelia), a classmate who is accused of knowing Kate's location... but concealing it to climb the social ladder in her absence.

Even though the first season ended on the juiciest of cliffhangers, Cruel Summer became an anthology series, returning for Season 2 with an entirely different cast and storyline in 2023.

Freeform has no comment on the report. Are you excited to potentially catch up with Kate and (presumably) the rest of the Season 1 gang? Are you hoping that Jeanette finally gets what's coming to her? We know this is a lot to process, so drop all of your thoughts in a comment below.
