Daniel Dae Kim Is One Dangerous 'Dead' Dad In Trailer For Amazon Spy Thriller Butterfly

Piper Perabo is gunning for Daniel Dae Kim in a first trailer for Butterfly, the Prime Video thriller arriving later this summer.

Starring and executive-produced by Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-0) and based on the BOOM! Studios' graphic novel series created by Arash Amel, Butterfly will release all six episodes Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Butterfly is described as "a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage." It follows David Jung (played by Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former U.S. intelligence operative living in South Korea, "whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Brockmire's Reina Hardesty), a sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for," the synopsis tells us.

The series' cast also includes Piper Perabo (Yellowstone, Covert Affairs) as Juno, the CEO of an intelligence company, and Louis Landau (Rivals) as Oliver, a cunning operative. Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake and Nayoon Kim all fill recurring roles, while Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa guest-star.

"Butterfly is the realization of a longtime dream to bring together American and Korean storytellers and create a show that bridges two cultures that I love deeply," said Kim in a statement. "I couldn't be happier with the creative team we've assembled, both in front of and behind the camera, and I'm grateful to Ken Woodruff, BOOM! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone else who helped bring it to life."

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) serves as showrunner and co-created the TV adaptation with novelist Steph Cha. Executive producers include Kim, Amel, Cha, Ken Woodruff, John Cheng, Stephen Christy, Ross Richie. Kitao Sakurai directed the first two episodes.
