Emily In Paris Assistant Director Diego Borella Dead at 47 After Collapsing On Set In Italy
Tragedy struck the set of Emily in Paris Thursday after assistant director Diego Borella collapsed and died during filming. He was 47.
"We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the Emily in Paris production family," a Paramount Television Studios spokesperson confirmed to TVLine in a statement. "Our hearts go out to the individual's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
Borella was pronounced dead in Venice, Italy at around 7 pm local time on Thursday. His death occurred as the crew was preparing for a scene inside the city's Hotel Danieli, reported local news outlets La Repubblica, Il Messaggero and Corriere della Sera.
Medical staff attempted to revive Borella on set, but he died at the scene. A local doctor stated that he likely died of "a sudden heart attack."
Borella was a well-known Venetian professional who worked in the visual arts and literature, and had trained all over the world in cities like Rome, London and New York, per La Repubblica.
Filming for Season 5 of Emily in Paris was suspended at the time, but has since resumed as of Saturday, Aug. 23.
